Gascard WAS lying. He never even had a sister. He was Quentin's apprentice, and would've turned on you once you brought him to him.
If you let him live during All That Remains (I think it's a Diplomatic Hawke choice), go back to Darktown and bring Fenris / Aveline with you. He'll give more backstory and you're given another choice on wanting to kill him or not. Spare him and you get a letter from him in Act 3 saying he quit magic.

You can talk to him again after Leandra is taken, and he can accompany you to the mage.Greta13 wrote...
Really? How do you know? I've always let him live and I've never seen him again after that first time.

He waits for you in Darktown. After Leandra goes missing you can find him there and he'll use blood magic to track that woman he had, whom Quentin has since kidnapped and killed. He'll then join you through Quentin's hideout. When you get to the end, it'll be revealed he was Quentin's apprentice but Quentin abandoned him. He really did want to kill Quentin, but after an offer to continue his apprenticeship Gascard will turn and join Quentin against Hawke. If Hawke has diplomatic or aggressive personality type you can coerce or intimidate Gascard into helping you fight Quentin instead. If you do, you can talk to him again afterwards in Darktown and either kill him or let him go. If you let him go, he'll send a letter in Act III saying he's given up magic and wants a fresh start because of Hawke showing him how evil necromancy is. It also says he sent an item as thanks, but it seems to be bugged and not showing up.

Aren't games that make you feel like pure bastage fantastic? LOL
I actually quit playing Heavy Rain after killing someone who yes, was an idiot, but they totally played on my guilt-strings about it. I felt awful for DAYS. Seriously. I stayed up most of one night, because I acted impulsively and immediately regretted it. Grrrr. Although admittedly, I found interactive drama immensely fun for what it was!
At least in this game, info does come out later to help settle things in your head. But yes, it can be hard lol.

He was Quentins apprentice and is only looking for him to advance from Blood Magic into necromancy and will betray you the second he sees Quentin.
So yeah, not a character to lose sleep over.

The far better option is to bring Varric along when Quentin Betrays you to Quentin. I don't want to spoil it, but honestly one of the best moments ever.

I didn't realize the killer could betray Hawke for himself

That's what makes him so evil! But, um, I'd also bring Varric along for when DuPris does it as well.

blood mage consorting with demons isnt innocent
Whn I first met DuPuis I thought "Why can't I just bring you in for questionning, interegation"
it was either "I believe u" or "DIE!!"
Anywayz wif regards to blood mages consorting wif demons; that is not being guilty...
Humans (in real life mind you) can be far worse then demons so much so that humans are, metaphorically speaking, demons.
If I was in the Dragon Age universe I wuld so overpower and use demons.
You come from the fade in search of me? Sure I'll let u posses me if u give me ur power.
-after learning everything it has to offer
"O... about that agreement... yeah I was just joking!!... You dn't honestly think anyone would sell their own body for power now did u? Because if you did, that's... just... very very funny... >=}"
-murders//enslave demon
"my desire btch now ; )"
Edit: Demons u can always trust to be malicious; it is people who u trust that can backstab u the hardest
of course not that demons actually exist in real life but; there are many disguesting people in reality
-end of edit

Yes but he also says that while getting rid of some stuff he found an ancient magic item or something along them lines and thought that Hawke might be able to use it. Only thing is you don't get nothing. So this part of its broken.
