I'd gave DA:O a 10/10. It was honestly the best gaming experience I've ever had, to the point where I teared up the first time I ever beat it. (Is that weird? Meh.) I can find a few small flaws, but nothing that truly takes away from the gameplay.

I'd give DA2 a 8/10. If I'd never played DA:O, it might have recieved a 9 or even a 10, but the comparison makes it lose points. The only thing I really have an issue with is the plot. I just find it rather boring and badly put together, and overall I didn't really care how it worked out in the end. It had nothing on the DA:O plot, which was pretty epic: having to gather allies to fight a massive Darkspawn army. The DA2 plot is largely politics, which is nowhere near as interesting.

However, it had far more good points than bad:

- Varric is seriously the best character from anything ever.
- I never thought I could have a bigger crush on a video game character than the one I had on Alistair, until I met Anders. <3
- There was far more side quests than main plot, which is my favorite formula for a RPG.
- DA:O was set up as basically a bunch of seperate locations, which you rarely had to travel between during a main plot quest. The main plot in DA2 was more spread out across the map.
- There were so many little happy moments when a recurring character from DA:O appeared, even if only for a few minutes.

Gah, I'm sorry for rambling. Long story short, I love both, but DA:O will always be my favorite game ever.

Agree. Both games are good!

Anders? LOL

I didn't get a crush with Anders but Fenris<3... now thats a work of art,
even when you are a mage, that guy stole Alistair throne in my shrine :P  Hehehe

It's an 8. While it's certianly not the best Bioware game (and I really enjoy it) every made but it's one of the most fun Bioware games.

DA:O 9.2, I still think it's slightly better than baldur's gate 1, which I give 9.1

DAII, if this is not made by bioware, I give 7.8, since it's a bioware product, only worth 6

Origins 9/10 - Great game overall. Graphical improvements and a deeper combat system would have made it 10/10. Replayed all of it multiple times and played through every origin at least once. Bought expansion and all available DLC.

DA2 4/10 - it was simplified in all the wrong places and injected with an unbelievable amount of silly and lame. Felt soulless, rushed, cartoony and one dimensional. Because of that, couldn't get immersed in the story which would have otherwise been the strongest element of the game. Was really struggling to finish the game at all and only did so because of Origins. Won't be buying any expansions or DLC for this game, or preordering from Bioware again.

First playthrough of Origins - 9.5
First playthrough of DA:Kirkwall - 4.5

Subsequent playthroughs of Origins - 9
Subsequent playthroughs of DA:Kirkwall - 6.5

I actually liked it a lot more after I let go of the idea that it wasn't really a sequel to Origins.

I can ignore a lot of technical issues, but the story was too narrow, had too many holes and the overall game was easily one half or even one third the length of Origins. I didn't really empathize with any of the companions either, which is a big disappointment to me in terms of story.

DA2 can get no more than a 6/10 from me and I think its probably closer to 5.5. Origins was one of my all time favourite games and easily a 9/10. Such a shame.

DA:O = 9.5. I started with Jade Empire, but this was the first time I'd played a "proper" RPG with a learning curve, and I loved every minute of it. Bored my friends for weeks going on about how great it was.

DAII = 6.5. Sure, the graphics were a bit better and it was released faster, but it seemed like it was at the cost of everything else. I missed being a mage who could still wear armour and heave a greatsword around. I missed having more than three environments. I missed the characters that made me spend hours getting to know them and like them. Most of all, I missed the deep, talky fun of Origins, where it was all about the stories of the world and its people, rather than how many things you could chop up in a short space of time.
DAII was OK - it was fun enough, and I loved the Origins cameos - but it was really dumbed-down. Bring back proper Dragon Age, please.

OK, rant over. *panting* Will shut up now. :D
