Obviously it is not a result of an equation but rather a person saying that it falls somewhere between two numbers. Many gaming magazines have/do use decimal review scores.

So get over it and move on.

Well... I usually assume those smilies are enough to indicate that I'm joking, I guess I should use a written disclaimer from now on instead, just to be extra clear.

My apologies. But, no, they don't really convey the context of the words over the internet perfectly all the time. Sometimes things are just lost in translation. That's why a lot of people use -j/k- at the end of a statement to ensure that nothing is lost.

Probably a good idea. Also, the whistling smiley can be used with sarcasm/insults so that might also have been why your comment seemed more hostile and less harmless fun.;)

DAO (on console): 8.5, proabably 9 on PC, although I haven't beaten it on PC
DA2: 7

DA:O = 8.5
Weird fighting stance (-1) and outdated graphics (-0.5).

DA2 = 2.5
Ugly art style (-0.5), ugly UI (-0.5), combats too flashy (-0.5), waves (-1), recycled maps (-1), cannot change companions' armors (-1), cannot interact with companions outside their bases (-1), storyline consists of unimportant quests (-1), no tactical camera (-1).

I really want to give the no-tactical-camera -9 but that would be...er, wrong.

Just when I think I've gotten the hang of English the internet comes along with a whole new set of punctuations to learn. Just forget I was here, I'll go revise.

It gets around 7 from me

Loved some of the characters. the out doors, and most of the story and while it did leave me wanting more....

I loathed the recycled dungeons, the enemy waves, the dumbed down Deeproads and Fade and the fetch and delivery quests

Well, according to this rating meter - I'd have to give DAO 9 and DA2 a 3 then :D

Origins: 9.4/10, a solid "A"
Dragon Age 2: 7.8/10, which is a "C+". Not a terrible game by any stretch, but compared to this student's first semester grade, a grave disappointment.

I also kind of don't see the value of "replay" grading. You should take that into account of the overall grade of the game. It's considered criteria for every game out there today. It's "Replayability".

I have a question for everyone here (at least those who dislike the game so much) why are you still in these forums if you dislike the game to the degree that :

New things we learn every day, grasshopper.

Also, Darkhour your 1) may be in jest, but it does seem a little scary. If only because people really do that sort of thing with the slightest of encouragement.

By your scale I give Origins a 9.25.
Dragon Age 2 gets a 6.5.

Only if the reader is stupid and doesn't understand hyperbole. I'll give you though, that both cases are more than possible traits.

Which rather was my point. A point can get across with less.. extremeness.. Of course that was rather lost in some aspects of DA 2.

Too extreme, yes. But that's just his personal score meter and not his actual score if you read his post carefully.

True enough, but subtlety is lost on some people, especially those of the zombie-killing, RC explosive driving, dispositions.

To be fair, it's not as if anyone has threatened BioWare developers thus. I highly doubt anyone would rate a game of theirs  as such, and I believe this person knows this.

Let's not be pedantic.

DA:O was/is a very good game, but also far from perfect. I think a 9 is deserved, but that kind of implies they could not have done much better. Which I think they could. So I'd say 8/10 to 9/10.

DA2 had a great concept, great characters. But bad execution. In some aspects DA2 beats DA:O but overall it stays at least one class below DA:O because, simply, it was a rush job. So something between 7/10 and 8/10 for DA2.
