DAO: 9.5 (I am still playing this game after nearly two years, so I think it's successful)
DA2: Depends, in comparison to Origins, 6. In comparison to other games, 8. So, 7 I guess, but that seems a bit high for me.

DA:O - 10
Outstanding game that came at a time when high fantasy epics were/are becoming cliche. Loved every moment of that game and it lived up to being the "spiritual successor of Baldur's Gate" (my favourite game of all time).

DA2 - 4 (as an RPG sequal) to 6 (as a standalone action RPG)
At the risk of over complicating things, I personally have no choice but to look at DA2 from two perspectives. As a game by ITSELF, it is a solid action RPG with some fun elements.

As a sequel to a classic RPG such as origins it is a collosal failure. It literally hurt my heart to play this game! The depth and passion that went into origins was thrown aside for gimmiky combat and thin story.

Origins is a classic. Deserving of its praise. DA2 was insulting to me.

DA:O 9/10
i never give 10 , that means its perfect no more room for improvement
DA2 5,5/10

graphicly a bit better
story not so good as its predecesor
character interactions not as funny and deep as in the first
combat improved , the only thing i consider improved compared to the first game
the level design well , the guy responsable should be fired , 1 cave template? seriously?

DA:O 7/10
DA2: 7.5/10

might also put a +1 to both as they are in a genre that has too few decent games.

DAO: 9.5/10

Great fantasy RPG with tons of hours of gameplay, with the expansion and all the DLC, and the amount of choices you can do, it is mindblowing how much content they packed into this game.

Everything is good except i hate that i am required to bring a specific class to lockpick chests, it just forces you to bring certain companions. And no voice for the player, i know that is old scool, but for me i don't like that. Even though there is some great dialog, or should i say monolog in the game.

DA2: 8.8/10
Great story, improved but not perfect combat(i do miss finishing moves), better dialog system, great choices, some truly epic moments. All in all a great game.

But they still force you to bring a rogue for lockpicking. And the worst part is that they re-use so many places over and over again. This is unforgivable, but understandable since they released the game so fast. (I smell EA behind that though) This really kills replayability on some levels, atleast you will not replay it until half a year or something has passed. And the graphics engine is not optimized well at all. Bad performance compared to graphical quality. Though graphics are not that important to me.

Even though both games has some serious flaws they are gems compared to so many fps and action games out there. DAO is over 100 hours of gameplay, probably more if you play it through with all origins and all the different choices you can make.

DA2 is shorter, around 45 hours for each playthrough, if you do everything. But still has 10 times more gameplay than most of the popular games out there. no matter what, i will always rank RPG games like these high compared to games with short singleplayer, since mp does not entertain me for long. Because they have so much value for the money you spend. Take a game like God of War 3, yes it is a good game with some truly epic moments. But it took me only 6 hours to complete. And no choices at all to make me want to replay it. And they charge full price for that?

DA:O 9.5/10

Longtime RPG fan and absolutely love all the character customisation, race variation, dragons, wealth of maps and talents. I was thrilled at my guy jumping onto an ogre and executing it in slowmo, even moreso when i finished off a high dragon and finished it in a pretty glorious manner.

I prefer no voice and a wealth of chat options, was a fan of baldurs gate so it doesn't bother me at all. The reason it gets such a high score from me is that the ONLY thing i have come across that could be concieved as a negative, imo, is that some of the characters have big hands. I love the companions, i love all the races you meet, the variety of locations, the music. It was like they rummaged into my brain to see what i like and put it into a game.

DA:2 4/10 (this is being generous, my subjective view is alot worse)

On its own the game has some merits but on the back of Origins it just made me want to cry into a pillow. The over the top anime huge weightless weapons flying around at mach 10 immediately turned me off, even more so as the attack speeds seemed pretty silly. The dark spawn now look like power rangers monsters and have lost the 'darkness' they had before. The characters themselves look shiney and cartoony, the back drops and scenery looks boring and uninpsired and the game clearly looks massively rushed and hap dash.

The companions made me feel sad inside and i wanted to find an option to kill them all to death, oh and the dialogue wheel is horrible. I literally hate it, although it did look ok with the mass effect games. Tbh most of what annoyed me has already been said so i won't go into it too much.

I did like the new look qu'inari (sp) but as an exceptionally fussy gamer, that was about it. (struggled to finish the game out of disgust/boredom).

DAO: 7.5, perhaps 8. Solid RPG but slightly overrated by the community.
DA2: 6.5 (but I still have to play fully the dreaded 3rd act)

I dont like it so I'm not going to give it some 5 or something just to be nice. If I don't like it and don't find it worth playing and it actually feels somewhat insulting when playing it then I'm going to give it a 1 because that's what it deserves.

am i the ONLY person who thinks DA2 is better than DA:O? for me it's superior in almost every way. i arrived after patch 1.3 dropped which supposedly made the game more challenging, and playing on hard mode im perfectly happy with the difficulty compared to DA:O. i find the level up 'trees' far more satisfying than the chains from before than often forced us to pick abilities we had no intention of using, in DA2 it feels like there are no wasted ability points which i definitely cant say of DA:O. the story and characters are totally subjective of course but i personally find having a real 'hero' instead of some nameless faceless clay golem that doesn't speak far more engaging, and i also prefer your party members in DA2 as well. next the combat: in DA:O every time i tried to play through the game i never even got close to the end because the slow and plodding combat sent me to sleep every time. cone of cold + stone fist then try and backstab everybody - same story for every single battle. the cross class combo system encourages you to use a much wider variety of abilities and the pace of combat blazes you through minor encounters much quicker whilst still retaining the difficulty. the inventory is better, companion armour is better, shopping, loot, crafting every little thing i can think of - most of the aches and pains from DA:O are done much much better this time around. the only thing DA:O does better is with the variety of locations you get to visit.

DA:O before DA2 came along: 8.5/10
DA:O after DA2 came along: 7.5/10

DA2: 9/10.

You are the only one. I haven't posted on this thread simply because I don't know what to give DA2, perhaps a 4+, four for the fact that even though it was painful to play I actually managed to complete it once, and the + for the few minor things it did better than DA:O

DA:O I would rate somewhere along the lines of a 9.

First Playthrough:

DAO: 10
DA2: 7

Replays:

DAO: 8.5
DA2: 3 No replay value at all. I played it for half of another replay and then never touched it again.

Overall I give DA2 a 5/10

You are not alone, I would give the exact same scores for largely the same reasons.

PS: I do have to add: I'm completely and utterly sick of this forum and the prevailing attitudes in it so you won't see much of me here anymore.

^ I think both games are great and enjoyed DAII slightly more. I'm trying to stick around at the moment, but only because I can't stomach the idea of DAII's lasting legacy being claimed as "crap." And, because I've been on these forums in various forms since Baldur's Gate. "Mixed reception" would be fair, but there are plenty of us intelligent adults who thought it was a great game, too.

^ So true.

Of course there is some very fair balanced criticism hidden among the "LULZ, I'm using my DAII disc as an ashtray!" and "DAII sux, nya nya!" nonsense, but the game is also constantly twisted into something it is not to bash it further.

Having played through DAII seven times now (Playthrough Nr. 7 was with Patch 1.03 installed, best Patch Bioware has given us in a while), I am still not tired of it at all. DAO? I have like 10 Wardens in limbo that pretty much got dull the moment Ostagar/Lothering reared its repetetive head.

I have no problem with people criticizing games, believe me. But, I am passionate about gaming being seen as a legitimate, adult pastime. Much of the "criticism" on this forum looks pretty childish to me. (Not to mention, counterproductive.)

Yep. Never mind petty, blatantly untrue or biased. Ahem......

I have no problem with seeing a game I love being criticized. (I adore Alpha Protocol and we all know how it got shredded by reviewers) But while DAII certainly has its flaws, it's still among the best games I've ever played.

DA:O: 9.5/10. I had some gripes with it, like the messy inventory, but it's the best RPG I played since Morrowind, hands down.

DA2: 8/10. It's great in some aspects, like characters, story and tactics...but environment recycling and enemies spawning out of thin air reduce it to "only" very good. I still like it a lot, though.
