DA1 and D2 = 8.5ish each.

Way too many DA1 fanboys rating it a ridiculous 9+.

DA1 = great role-playing
DA2 = better story and better characters (example: varric > oghren)

If a 9+ is ridiculous, why is the average of 100+ professional critics on metacritic a 91/100 (for DAO)?

DA:O — N/A, I didn't play through the whole game, I got bored with it.
DA2 — 7, overall a fun game, memorable characters, good voice acting, combat is okay, but it isn't a perfect game, as has been cited by others since its release. But 7 is a good rating, and with the right DLC content, that rating could improve considerably by the time it's all said and done.

So why should I have to pay yet more money for the game it should have been?

Hate to break it to you, but my evaluation of the game actually doesn't take into account other people's financial considerations. I was giving my personal opinion of the game based on my personal situation. I like the game, I look forward to DLC, I will purchase the DLC, and I will play the DLC. We're not talking about hundreds of dollars here. I spend more on a single Hot Toys action figure than I've ever spent on a BioWare game. I'm not a 12-year-old on an allowance. $20 or $30 difference isn't going to make or break a game to me. Heck, I bought Prince of Persia and didn't even finish it, it's still sitting in a box somewhere. Oh well. If you don't think the game is a good value, that's fine, that's your opinion and your evaluation of the game should reflect that. Better yet, you should return it for a refund. Problem solved. But I refuse to be upset because you think you got ripped off, what with me not even knowing who you are and all that.

"If a 9+ is ridiculous, why is the average of 100+ professional critics on metacritic a 91/100 (for DAO)?"

Multiple potential reasons:

a) bribery

2) the scale is wacky

3) professional reveiwers are dumb and untrustworthy

They rate lots of crappy games high and lots of great games low. I, for one, don't base my opinions on other people's opinions. That's cowardly.

I like the voiced dialog, better combat in general; dislike certain aspects of combat, camera that lacks tactical view and is still buggy, sloppy cinematics and rushed feeling of certain quests/maps/NPC interactions. Everything else I didn't mention, I didn't feel changed much between DAO and DA2.

I think a reasonable person would enjoy a 7, and be happy they bought it (if not perfectly satisfied). Marketers on the other hand want 9s and 10s, because they think this is the minimum threshold to attract public interest.

Don't get me wrong: I loved DA:O, and I enjoyed the far less stellar DA2.  But I rarely trust "professional" critics.

If you critique for a living, you need money - and a lot of your revenue will be ad revenue. This means a lot of your income depends on the companies whose products you're supposed to be impartially reviewing. Game companies also decide who gets early review copies, which puts the reviewer in a dependent and vulnerable position: are you going to ****** off the hand who feeds you? What guarantees your future income: your subscriber base, or your relationship with the publishers?

I feel the professional scores I've seen for DA:2 are grossly inflated, and yet I'm quite happy I bought the game. There's no shame in being a 6 or a 7 - there's only room for improvement. I would start with increasing the number of maps, esp. dungeons, and allocating more time for bug fixes. Creating encounters that are challenging in their own right, not because another wave will spawn after the first two are complete. And if Act 3 is any indication, I would give the writers time to develop the compelling characters and story choices that made Bioware famous.

Sometimes I think I should give DA2 a higher rating because I did finish it but I just can't, maybe I need a new state of mind when I play it.

You gave DAO a 9.5!? thats is total fanboyism. It doesnt deserve any were closed to that. Dont you even see its MANY flaws? How bout its clunky slow out dated combat, its cleiched story, its use of a voiceless main ncharacter who stares blanky at everyone even during the most desperapte of times? Your either a lier, or your blind.

There are no perfect games.
Eventually you come to love something not because it's flawless, but because of its flaws. I rate a game according to its overall value.
There's something nearly intangible about Origins that is just...enjoyable.  I was watching an HBO sitdown called Talking Funny, with Jerry Seinfeld, Louie CK, Chris Rock and Ricky Gervais. Seinfeld said something that was very interesting. He said, [You can't tell someone why they like something...They just do.]
Tell me the story is cliched all you want, but at a lot of points, I think that was the intention. It was like a love note to the RPG genre and Fantasy as a whole. It just worked for me. There were many references to Tolkien, Robert Jordan, George R.R. Martin, Dungeons and Dragons. I think a lot of so called "elitists" have missed the whole point of the game. It was meant to be a tribute to Fantasy and the Western RPG.
Of course it's cliche!
Even down to your non-voiced hero. The voice is yours. The slower combat. It felt more thoughtful. You had to think a little ahead about what you were doing. Sometimes you miss. Sometimes you didn't position your team right. Of course it's clunky and complicated. You need a better scheme to operate. Reload the fight and think about it, then try again.
I loved this game and all of its flaws and foibles. You could have reconstructed this game in all detail only changed the names and shifted the story around a bit and I would have loved it if you called it Dragon Age 2. I would have enjoyed that immensely. Sure we'd get complaints that it was no different than Origins, but I don't think many people would have minded that all that much.
I mean, just look at this thread. Origins averages a 9 out of 10.
Dragon Age 2 is something like a 7.
And who has the nerve to say that Dragon Age 2's story isn't cliche? A down on their luck family enters a city as a fefugee and has to do whatever it takes to survive, eventually rising to the top...
That doesn't sound familiar AT ALL.
For crying out loud, that angle was covered in the Dwarf Commoner story in Origins.

Sorry, all of the arguments putting down Origins are pretty tired. And still the same people who love to say so cannot bring themselves to say that Dragon Age 2 was better. Not with a straight face.

Hmm  good points! It seems the only defense by those in (strong) favor of DA2 is how much they can tear down Origins, yet they list nothing that revealing as to why DA2 is superior. It is almost like dealing with the religious right here in the U.S., they are high on making moral proclamations, but reflect little of it in substance.

I like DAO and DA2 and just because I like DA2 doesn't mean that am gonna qq about every single of his flaws in every single post i see, like 99% of the ones who doesn't like dA2, they just see the flaws and NONE of the merits.

1) Character respond to attacks
2) way better CC ( no need 4-5 mods to make 1 pretty face)
3)VO( a new character that is NOT BLANK SHEET as the warden, notes I never said that, I love the mute warden just the same)
4)New city, area ( outside ferelden/denerim like so many players wanted)
5)new+fun spells for mages
6)fast combat( for the ones who complained of  Origen combat speed was too slow)
7)great banter btw companions.
8)No more chracter interaction outside ( like so many wanted, remember awakening? so many hated the camp talks.. look now!) rofl. I miss talking to my companions, I miss asking lily about the forest, redcliff.. arg I miss lily!

Every single QQ i read in here  transport me back in time, when in Dragon age forum people asked for all this marvelous things, now it seems DAO is better because of them.. stop talking with your bottoms people!.

Ever wonder why the fade only last 17 minutes? people complained of the fade in origens.
Ever wonder why the deep road last 30 minutes? it was too long and boring.

If you want to check for the truth of what I have typed here, search the forum dicember-january. There you'll probably find the names of 90% of the whinners.

DAO: 8
DA2: 8

So far I'd rate it a 7/10, which is actually a decent score for me and I was expecting much worse. It obviously suffers from the things many point out -- namely repetitive environments, waves of spawning trash from all angles constantly, etc... -- but I've still managed to gain enough enjoyment to play through the game without much fuss. I'm more annoyed about the DLC, pre-order incentive s**t and general game-not-being-finished stuff to be honest, that's annoying me more as time moves on.

Oh, I'd rate Origins an 8/10, btw.

I can go as high as a 7, if I don't compare it to Origins but thats pushing it.

Let's see DA2 failed as an action game, no where as AWESOME as God of War III. No where as engrossing as Origins, and all the mechanics were removed or streamlined to appeal to more gamers. Which I find insulting because if I want to play a FPS or an action game, I wouldn't be putting DA2 into my Xbox.

So, I have to give it a 6.5. The point 5 is for effort for thinking it can be all those things.

Origins: 9/10 an excellent, epic rpg, which really made me feel attached to the warden.
Da2: 7/10 an enjoyable experience, but one which I had no desire to play through again. Fun combat, but no dual wielding warriors. Hawke can't hold a candle to the warden. Story was very meh. I wasn't attached to Hawke, and the high point of the game for me was when the warden was mentioned at the end. Hoping this means the warden for da:3
