Since the magazine mentioned that the turians have moved to a nearby moon because Pavalen has been set on fire, I'm guessing that's probably it up there. I doubt it's the Citadel; the Citadel doesn't have any planetary companions or natural satellites in its orbit.

This kinda reminds me of when the ME3 teaser trailer was first released. The theories were friggin' outrageous. Shattered Steel... Alpha Protocol 2... First Person Shooter Effect... The First Contact War...

Or more recently-

Bioware: Our audio team has been talking with the guys from DICE. Looking at their work, knowledge sharing.
Forumites: DICE is doing the audio for ME3!

Now we've got squished arms, giant Reaper factory/super weapon (that the Reapers are attacking?), flying Citadel and who knows what else.

Will the lolz never end?!

Do you honestly think that the idea of utilizing the Citadel against the Reapers is an "outrageous" theory? I actually really like the idea.

As for whether or not it's the Citadel, it may not be. The architecture of the buildings doesn't looks like anything that would be on the Citadel (from what we've seen of it) but arms on each side of the picture are definitely curious. I do think there is more to the concept art than "moon under attack," whether or not the idea makes it into the final game.

From what we know it doesnt have any planetary defence systems or satelites, thats why its so interesting as to what this is, as from pictures it does definitley seem like the earth. Does also seem way to close to be the moon :

I don't think using the Citadel against the Reapers is outrageous. I think flying it around space is.

I agree. I mean it kinda takes away the challenge of gaining support from the rest of the galaxy, if all you had to do was infiltrate the Citadel, and then just fly it around, blasting any Reapers in your path.

It looks like an interior being ripped apart. Like there was a space station ment to look like an earth exterior, and it was ripped open by reapers (especially since the "arms" aren't even symmetrical)

I'm pretty sure that's taken from the Moon/Luna, not the Citadel.

Yup. There are trees on the moon. Makes perfect sense!

Maybe the moon is going to crash into Earth, like in that horrible movie! /sarcasm

To me it mostly looks like the reapers have lifted Avenue des Champs-Elysees into space. :D

There's trees on the Citadel now? Did I miss them?

but seriously guys this picture is more than likely a nonsense concept art, or possibly even a composite photo. Its just meant to look cool and illustrate the invasion from both a wide shot orbital perspective and a more close up city perspective. The foreground and the background may very well BOTH be Earth.

Its not a space station or the moon because there are clearly visible trees in the ground. And it looks nothing like the Citadel either. Look at the supposed "arms" extending towards earth. They are connected to each other until almost just before they end! It is absolutely not at all The Citadel.

Of all the suggestions so far, Champs-Elysees is the most likely

After all the reapers are after Tech, Resources and biomass..so lift a city into space and harvest it - after all a city would provide all 3 things the reapers wants, Kind of like "popping the cork" in dead space.

Also this way it would leave very little trace of anything ever happened in that location in the future (like 10-50000 years)

Yeah I'm sticking with the notion that it's just concept art. Look at it, say "Ooh." and turn the page.

A moon dome might have trees in it.

Well, there's a colony on Luna with 4.1 million people living there. And the capital is Armstrong.

Just a thought - for anyone who played Bring Down the Sky, we know that the Alliance and/or other governments make use of large asteroids towed into orbit over a world as mining sources and later habitats. Looking at the picture, there seems to be a lot of debris floating around which reminds me a lot of the X51 asteroid. Perhaps that's what we're looking at here?

The object in question is too close to be on the Moon or a Lagrangian point, so it's likely a space station of some sort. Not sure why they would use the Citadel to fight the Reapers to begin with. Who would pilot it? How would they pilot it? Why would Shepard endanger everyone on the Citadel for some firepower? Doesn't make sense.

Anyway, gotta be a space station close to Earth.

It's a moon with the Turian homeplanet in the back. You can see in the spanish magazine a picture very similar to this and we know we will be fighting in a Palaven's moon, with the planet burning in the background.

So the Turian home world has the land outline as Earth?

yep, that's the explanation. It's better than the other ones at least.

Look at the end of the ward arm, near the Presidum. Look familiar?

The building styles are certainly different, but there are the same roads, or what look like roads, in both pictures. Much less skyscrapers in the image of Earth, but it could be a more residential district of the Citadel, who knows.

Well played good sir.

Actually, I think there are trees on the Citadel in ME1, particularly the Presidium.

Okay. Here's another theory: It's not the Citadel, it's not luna, and the planet in the background is not earth.
There have been many real life planets found that are far too large for conventional life to evolve on, but they have moons the size of earth.
What if what we are seeing is a large alien moon orbiting a much larger planet?
