This isn't going to end well. Also, "canon."
You mean.. that's not what this thread has been talking about for 4 pages? And here I was getting all excited. I'm a big fan of American Revolution-era cannons, personally.

That said, the beauty is that any LI works fairly well. You can't really go wrong, well except Mordin who will reject your advances and sing you a song.

My personal cannon Shepard has Liara has a LI. She obviously shares a deep connection with Shepard, and is the most loyal to him. Besides, considering that my Shepard is all about the mission "at any cost" it makes sense that he kind of corrupts her over time from the innocent archeologist to the bad-ass information broker.

The only ME2 LI that I felt cheated out of was Samara... she knows she can have romantic relationships, and anyone with even half a brain knows "romance =/= sex", so why would she reject Shepard? It's not like they'd HAVE to have sex. FemShep and Garrus didn't, for example. MaleShep and Jack didn't either.

Who do you guys think is the cannon love interest. I'm reasonably certain that it's Liara for the following 5 reasons.
1. She cannot die.
2. She's arguably the most intelligent of the potential LI (Tali and Mirranda might also qualify)
3. She was the one who... damnit I can't spoil it... but she did something very important for Shepard.
4. She is the only LI from the first game who greets Shepard warmly in the second. I hope this doesn't count as a spoiler.
5. A certain video released by Bioware involving the PS3 opening comic.
It pretty obvious that Liara is the canon LI.
As it is extremely obvious that a male warden with Morrigan as the LI (who went through the eluvian) is canon for DA.
People who claim there is no canon are just mad that their choices aren't canon and seek a middle ground with people who made the right choices. But people who made the canon choices are a superior super race who will not be lumped together with canonless flith. I truly hope for the day when canonites and wrongalites have seperate drinking fountains.

Liara is the canon LI for my Shepard but I don't agree that she is canon for all.

I'm sorry, but you just shot down your own argument. Kaiden and Ashely are not more developed than Liara. Unless you were refering to her as the alien, which considering she looks quite human, and can reproduce with humans that seems unlikely. If anything Liara is the most well developed and deep character in the games, and her role didn't decrease to a cameo in the second.hawat333 wrote...
Here you have the cannon LI.
Reliable, sturdy, and never lets you down, even if a bit slow sometimes. But when fired up, well, amazingly passionate!
But anyways, there's no such thing as canon with the ME trilogy, all other media carefully avoids these questions for this very reason.
So in a pure What If? situation, let's see who would be:
The alien romances are out of the question because they are lore-incosistent with ME1 and because the Romance in an adventure story is always there since the beginning. That leaves Ash, Kaidan or Liara. Considering the LI should be one of the most developed characters along with the main character, it leaves Ash or Kaidan. As the commercial face is male, we are pretty safe to say if there would be a canon story, Shepard would be male.
Therefore it would be Ashley Williams.
But again, there's no canon here.
edit: Aww, Ryzaki beat me.

No, if you start without inporting a saved game with a LI you have no LI. Ash/Kai are there as loyal solders and crew members.Raizo wrote...
Probably the Ashley/Kaiden. Even though I have not experienced it for myself I hear that Kaiden's speech on Horizon is written from the perspective of a former lover. Ashley pursues Shepard quite agrresively in ME1 and is very quick to stake and mark her terriotory while Liara's attraction to Shepard is partially based on the fact that she has never met a human before let alone one that has just saved her life ( ie. Liara's romance with Shepard is more quriousity based ).
Edit.
I just remembered that if you start Me2 without importing a save from ME1 your default LI wil be Ashley/Kaiden depending on your Shepard's gendre. Thta alone is a strong indicator on who the canon LI is.

Uh...no.
It's one of the three defaults. But it's not canon by any stretch of the imagination.

You wrongalite scum!!!
The only choices are Liara (very important character and canon LI) and Ashely (irrelevent nobody and breif awkward cameo). Kaidan doesn't count as femshep doesn't count. A woman? Saving the galaxy? MwaHaHaHaaaa!!!

No, no, no, ambiguity is no good. I need the developers to tell me exactly how to think, who to love in each game and how to play it the 'right' way, otherwise I will annoy people on the internet. I can't have that.
Feel free to play as you desire. Just know that if you do not make the right choices your game will not reflect the real life Shepard's actual decsions.
