I have a dual wielder, she started as sword and board and then I switched. I should have switched earlier but I do like smashing things with a shield
However, dual wield is awesomeness. I'ts boring but I tend to make all my melee characters dw. You do want a little bit extra in will and con but definitely concentrate on strenght and dex. Momentum is your friend and you won't need haste or salves imho. You also want Riposte and Flurry and then follow those trees. For myself I prefer sword and dagger combo.

Anyone tried stacking Dex and using dual daggers? Berserk plus daggers looks interesting, and since you would use daggers, stacking Dex makes you very tough to kill in combat.

Heh. Why the bump? It doesn't add anything and the topic is a year old. Fishing for additional commentary? If so, I'll bite and comment on this particular post.
Dual Dagger + Dual-Striking with a focus on Dexterity is absolutely by far the highest DPS you'll see in DA:O for a character in a party. Solo play and DA:A have other options.
The key lies in also running Flaming Weapons and Frost Weapons. Criticals & back-stab start with a base multiplier of only 1.5 and only for weapon+attribute damage. Dual-striking doubles everything, including all bonus damage from +damage on weapons, Berserk, and on through Flaming & Frost. Not only that, but you double your flaming and frost again with hexes. Why daggers? They hit faster than other weapons. So, you apply your doubled up damage more often.
A very carefully built rogue can potentially slightly outperform dual-striking with back-stabbing, but only while backstabbing. While they're getting into position, they're falling way behind on dps.
A team with 3x melee and one mage built around this kills the archdemon in nightmare in roughly 20~25s.

BTW, let me say again that this is really only for DA:O. DA:A has so many ways to do outlandish DPS that it's hard to say which one is top.

Every play-through I've ever done with a warrior, I've used dual wielding. I've found that the Veshaille with paralyze, silverite and cold steel runes in one hand, and either Duncan's sword (from Return to Ostagar) or the Top-sider's Honor with dweomer, silverite and cold steel runes are awesome (since the bulk of the monsters are either darkspawn or un-dead). If I'm going after Flemmeth (or any other dragon), I'll pay Sandal a visit and swap-out the cold steel runes for either frost or electricity ones.
One of the things about DAII that annoyed me the most was the loss of the dual-wielding trees for warriors.
