Where did Jade Empire go and why? Is it even possible to make another game?

I actually just replayed Jade Empire on my 360 last week and it reminded me that I hadn't really heard anything about the supposed Jade Empire 2 in years. When I went to look it up the information/rumors were conflicting. From what I read, It seem there were plans but they were slowed to a standstill around the time of the merger. But my question is...why?
I created a poll ( http://social.biowar...97/polls/19431/ ) to seek out the gamer's opinions on the likely hood of Jade Empire returning, but now I'm more curious as to why it was halted in the first place? What process would halt a game under production?

Even though reviewers loved it and its scores were off the charts, Jade wasn't exactly Bioware's best selling game. Maybe EA wanted bioware to focus their efforts on Mass Effect, DA, and TOR, obvious big money makers. Also Some of the best minds behind ME1 were unable to work on ME2 because of TOR. My fav author, Drew Karpy included
so it might be a resource thing.I can't provide a link but I recall reading in a pretty recent interview a statement from someone at Bioware saying they would be focusing a lot of their time on TOR in coming months, as well as perhaps revisting some previous IPs eventually, so that provides a little hope. And with ME done for now, TOR almost done maybe they revive it. I have a feeling that DA2 will have an Awakening level dlc soon but DA3 will most likely have a lonngggg development process so perhaps theyll go back to it. No one had any idea Skyrim was even being created but its almost done now. So that gives me hope well return to JE eventually. Maybe even soon

Ditto to what yfullman said. Production on JE2 seemed to be moving along until EA took control. I hate to sound like I'm corporate bashing but I am sure they looked at the dollars and went with where the profit was.
I wish they would even re-release the original JE with ME or DA graphics engine. That game looked beautiful in 2005, I think it would be breathtaking in next gen graphics.
I am doubtful that we will ever see a sequel to this game. It was banished to the mass grave forum 'other games'. BW/EA has to much going on but as yfullman said there may be a lull for a revisit but I would guess a new shooter/online IP will be in the works.
"I am Death's Hand. I am reborn again and again" unfortunately not:(

Interesting. The only thing is: Jade Empire was documented as being 2002-2005 copyright and Mass Effect was around 2007. DAO was after that... so how would EA know those new IPs would make more money than an established (and successful) one? Mass Effect was full of new concepts and ideas plus was a three game commitment since the trilogy is supposed to be linked...so it was probably an even risker financial undertaking than say, Dragon Age (dark fantasy RPG is a selling setting already) or Star Wars (huge name fan base) or Jade Empire (had been a new IP but already proved successful)...so I'm not sure the IP content themselves would be a strong enough reason alone for corporate for move away from the production of another Jade Empire before ME or DAO.
I can, however, see yfullman's point in believing it may still be created : ME3 is in production and the the trilogy is done. SW:TOR is an MMO, so once it comes out a team will be needed to moderate it, but other than occational DLC or packs, no sequels will be out for a while. DAO is unpredictable since no long term plans have been announced and we don't know how many DAs they plan to create. Still, that leaves the book more open a bit after ME3 and SW:TOR are released...so it is more likely that at this time bioware may try to mix it up a bit and rework an old IP like Jade Empire 2, right?

I hope they make another one some day. The first is one of my favorite games of all time.

I hope so! I would kill for another game in the Jade Empire world, even if it had nothing to do with the first game (I feel like the story in the first was wrapped up rather nicely). Maybe if we ask real nicely...

If they make a second installment, I'll buy it on steam for sure.

I just recall seeing that jade 2 was in development as late as 2008 but then.....nothing. which leads me to believe the merger with ea had something to do with it. So if it will ever be developed, I believe doing so after me3 and tor seems most likely

Feel free to join in if you feel it's worth your time.

I'm betting if you want to see Jade Empire 2 the best thing to do would be to download Jade Empire from Xbox live (if you have an Xbox 360 that is) to prove it can still make money. Even if you already have it. Unfortunately it still doesn't render all the textures in the download, but it's convenient that way. No hunting for the disk.
