Two questions, neither of which I could find answered on the wiki or these forums.
First question. After New Path and the death of Marithari, Merrill will be shown destroying the Eluvian if a rival. However, if a friend, she will just weep for her loss but not be seen shattering the Eluvian. In either case, the Eluvian disappears.
I played the friendship-romance path, and for the longest time I thought she had moved the Eluvian to my mansion. But instead it was just gone without any explanation. Only after viewing the rivalrly cutscenes on youtube did I realize the lack of shattering animation might have been an oversight. Is it? Is she intended to have destroyed the Eluvian in either case?
Second question. What if you never do the New Path quest---turn it down or just skip it. Does the mirror stay in Merrill's house for good?
Please clarify all possible fates of the Eluvian

The eluvian is in her alienage house IIRC.

It disappears after the New Path quest is completed and you talk to her.

Merrill destroys the Eluvian on rivalry or if her clan is killed, IIRC, and she doesn't destroy it (and continues to use blood magic) if the clan is spared and if she has a friendship with Hawke. I think this was originally bugged because her remorse for the Keeper happened before the actual quest, but the latest patch rectified this (or so I've heard).

This has not been my experience.I spared her clan, she wept about the fact that they should have listened to her, I told her that she should stay with me, and then the mirror just disappeared. There was no talk of continuing to work on it.
Can someone else jump in here?
Has anyone ever seen the mirror following completion of the friendship post-New-Path dialogue? It just disappears from the game without any explanation.
This is very important as I'm sure there'll be a link to Morrigan's mirror down the line.

I highly doubt there's any link. After Merrill's quests the mirror loses any importance. It could've been a saving grace in DA2 but fate did not have it in it's cards. I'd assume it destroyed for being useless at that point.

I think it's actually highly relevant. If you recall, Morrigan's Eluvian was located using a scrying ritual involving pieces of Merrill's Eluvian. Therefore, the two are intimately connected and even a shattered Eluvian in DA2 has huge plot implications (for example, it maybe used by Hawke to locate Morrigan's Eluvian)
Which brings me to my original question, answerable only by the debs I guess given the lack of replies: does Merrill shatter the mirror in the friendship path?

According to Mary, she shatters it and gives up blood magic if you're on the rivalry path.
That would suggest she doesn't shatter it if you're on the friendship path.

I've only seen her shatter it in my current playthrough and that has been my only merril rival path.

Merrill does not shatter the mirror on the friendship path, even if her clan is killed.
If you're on the friendship path and choose the "keep studying elven history" option when she asks for advice on what to do next, Merrill says, "I do have this...not-exactly-working magic mirror. I might find some way to finish it. Maybe all my training as a Keeper wont go to waste after all. Thank you." The mirror still inexplicably vanishes from her house anyway, but given her dialogue it's likely still intact...somewhere...

She probably takes it to the Hawke Mansion, although that would only work if you're in a romance.
Also... wicked!!!!!!

Thanks... I just verified this with my own save. I got confused because that is the only conversation option that gets her to say that her work will continue. The other option, "stay with me," just causes her to briefly agree (in a rather crazed manner, I have to say). Very confusing to have the mirror disappear at that point.
Also, I have checked, and having completed the quest while in a friendship romance, the Eluvian is nowhere to be found in Hawke mansion. It's gone from the game.
So it's settled then---the mirror is not supposed to be destroyed following a friendship completion of New Path. I am assuming that its disappearance is a bug, then.
