So I've been hearing a lot of bad reviews about DA:2, mainly from people calling it an "unfinished game".  Before I play it, I'm wondering if there are any essential mods out there people would recommend -- not to overhaul the game into something unrecognisable, but simply to improve it and plug whatever holes people are saying the game has.

I'm playing on the PC with a 1920x1200 resolution (in case there are any visual interface mods people would recommend)

Any advice appreciated. :)

There is no mod that could fix the games problems, nor are there any patches. Its Biowares and EAs fault to make game in hurry and then have it unfinished and halfbaked

...no patches? dude - seriously, they've patched all the game breakers I know this month.

Modding is going to be tricky compared to DA:O without a toolset, but there are a few. Just get the latest Bioware patches and there shouldn't be anything to ruin the experience, just annoying area reuse and ninja teleporting enemies

Unhelpful, and factually inaccurate? Bravo.

Whilst there aren't any mods which add new levels or such, there's a fair few out so far. There's a thread here with a fair few listed. No gibbing and less blood are two of my preferred ones. There's also item packs for equipment that scales with your level. This one is probably the most comprehensive.

My advice would be to play through once without mods, then have a look to see if there's any which change issues that particularly annoy you.

people are whining about the games lack of story, recycled areas, ninja enemies and like I said, there is no patch nor mod that can fix that ;)

my advice is read as much about the game as you can and play the demo before deciding to buy. f the common criticisms don't put you off too much and you can get it relatively cheap then I'd say do so. it's not a great game, and it can't hold a candle to Origins but it's ok

if not, I'd recommend waiting and seeing if they can at least fix the problems with patches, DLC, expansion or hopefully releasing a toolset so the modders can really get stuck in

that is all subjective and not actually gamebreaking...i enjoyed the story and barely noticed the other two...stop confusing your opinion with fact

The only one I regard as essential is this which fixes some of the remaining import bugs that weren't fixed by the patch.

Get the pants mod for Isabella if anything.

Unfortunately, the Pants for Isabela mod conflicts with the mod that makes Isabela's hands look like they belong on a person, rather than a skeleton.

It's a dilemma, choosing between them.

Not my oppinion but a know fact, I enjoyed the game too but that doesnt make the problems go away.

OP asked what were the problems that people whine and those were the most know ones that I listed and again, there is no fix to them

1) Chargen Revamp Cant live without the iconic female hawke hair
2) No Gibbing Enemies dont randomly explode when you hit them with an arrow
3) Sustained graphical effects removed Cant stand rock armor graphic
4) Vibrant Hair Absolutely stunning modification that makes hair look at least 10x better in game.
5) Vibrant Eyes Nuff said

These are the mods I consider essential

So what you're saying is that you don't know the difference between a fact and an opinion?

There is a story, that simply cannot be argued.  Whether you like it or not is entirely subjective.  As in, an opinion.  Not a "know fact".  It is not a bug or a problem with the game.
