...a source of extra money when sold?

For those who've played Parasite Eve, remember all that junk that you kept collecting and were wondering what was the point?  Remember what your reaction was when you found out that 300 pieces of junk could result in a gun and/or armor depending on which you got in the second run through?

I remember looking at several pieces of junk in DA2 and thinking couldn't some of that be put to better use?  For instance, a collection of thread or linen can be used to craft a set of armor that you can have tailored to your class (I'd also like to be able to design it, but this isn't the Sims).  Or maybe finding a weapon (or weapons) whose stats you like, leads you to want a particular stat from that weapon merged with your current weapon.  I can imagine maybe using Sandal for that or maybe enchanting your armor or robes if you don't want to use a tailor or blacksmith.

More can add to this, but in future games I'd appreciate having loot matter more than just a means of getting more money especially if you're going to collect loot marked 'junk'.

edited to fix last line as it was supposed to be a request for future games

the irony is they created the "junk" category because people were tired of dealing with junk items

^^ And that's why I brought this up because I don't think a junk category should exist if it's not going to serve any real purpose.

I guess I wouldn't mind it too much if the junk collected didn't impact the number of available slots left in my inventory. Although I could be wrong, I don't think you can transfer items back into usable inventory from there. Either way, its function comes across as more negative than positive.

But it does serve a purpose. Items only good for selling is automatically put there. In Origins you had to go through all the tabs in the inventory and manually move all the fancy vases into junk.

And you can't tell Bioware to just get rid of all the useless items. RP people want to get their greasy paws of moar loot - MY preciousss, we wantss it :o

On this topic, I was a little irked when the 'priceless' book the Keeper gave me was mere trash.

So don't loot junk.

the "items moved to junk" idea is great.

The fact that you pick up rusty spoons, broken swords, torn pantaloons, and other stuff that sells for less than one silver when the Hero of Ferelden would pick up diamonds, sapphires, heavy chainmails, and other things that sold for anywhere between 30 silver to 3 sovereigns isn't.

Maybe it should have been our first clue about Marethari's judgement (in regards to Mirror Image)?

Thanks for the Golem reference Caradoc.

I don't want them to get rid of loot.  I'd much prefer they give you the chance to utilize the junk loot to a certain end.  I don't want them to be requirements for crafting: "I need that [dung stuff] to make a potion" a la Anders.  I'm thinking more along the lines of KOTOR, but better.

By the way, thanks for mentioning the diamonds and such as I felt the same way in NWN.  I don't like picking stuff up that serves little to no purpose in a single-player rpg.  It works in an MMO if you can decorate your home with the stuff, but if I find a broken sword I'd like to utilize the blade or the hilt for another sword or dagger.  Or take the torn pantaloons and have a robe made for me or my mage companion(s) with maybe better stats if I can get them enchanted.  Imagine the gift system utilizing something like this much like Merrill's ring or Isabela's pendant.

Of course I can do that and sometimes I do, but it doesn't help that a barrel that could hold an extra health, mana, or stamina potion yields a junk item that I can't do anything with.  At that point I'm wasting my time looting barrels for the slim chance of finding something of use to me less than, say, 10% of the time rather than having a higher probability of finding something useful.
