Aveline's competence doesn't rest on Hawke. It's like what Thane said 'I don't need your help. I want it'. She's a perfectly capable woman. Except with Donnic. That quest has weight. To my knowledge she has the most end game variation because of it.
So unless we're going to start complaining about characters that have their own minds, wills, and skill sets that operate seperatly from the PC...actually, that would be a mildly interesting discussion.
What if Aveline doesn't become Guard-Captain?

I'm curious- what happens if she doesn't end up with Donnic? I love that quest so I always do it.
Mainly she wont marry Donnic, which means he wont help out in the end battle. Also affects some bits of her act 3 quest.
In short she becomes a harder Captain who isn't balanced out by Donnic so inspires less loyalty. Which basically means You can face up to double the enemies because her guards side with the old captain and his revenge scheme.
Wow, I didn't know this.

Choices don't mean anything in DA2. You can do the quest or not but don't expect a different outcome.

What's this about choices not mattering?
It's already laid out in front of us that things change.
If you didn't help Aveline with Act 1 quest
1) Jevan resigns on his own
2) Aveline becomes acting captain in Act 2, not official captain
3) Slight dialogue changes in Act 2
4) Jevan doesn't stir up trouble against her in Act 3
If you didn't help Aveline with Chasing Donnic quest
1) Donnic doesn't end up with her, duh!
2) Aveline becomes a harsher captain apparently, you face enemy guards in Act 3 when doing Aveline's quest
3) Donnic doesn't help out in final fight
4) Slight dialogue changes in Act 3

So for Aveline not to end up with Donnic do I have to talk to her and refuse to help her or can I just skip her quest.

Another choice that doesn't even have any relevance in the game? I'm shocked, Genuinely shocked.

Do you even bother reading the threads you post in or do you just see anything negative about DA2 and post "OMFG IT'S BAD" about it?
