 Live?

Side with Varnell and when Petrice comes by later, you can let her live, the Mother will believe her claims but strip her of any titles, and you can talk to her in Act 3.

Interesting riiiight?

...why in the world would you ever allow that horrible fanatic to live?

Though, yes, it's very interesting. She talks about schism, people being disappointed in the Chantry...she's not exactly a Luther, but I wonder if she's referring to the mage troubles in Act 3.

Well, she's not exactly the only fanatic...and honestly, I think I almost prefer her manipulation than the Qunari's Xenophobia and lack of individuality.

I'm gonna do this on my next run. I'll play a character who grows to hate the Qunari and finds Petrice's mission against them to be a worthy cause.

It's gonna make me sad to miss out on this moment though...

One of the most interesting choices I made for my main Hawke was keeping Petrice alive. With the aggressive personality as the prerequisite for gaining the persuade for Varnell in the first place, my Hawke was basically saving someone as crazy as she was. Though the only other thing common between this Hawke and Petrice was hating the Qunari. (I love yelling at Petrice after helping her kill the Qunari. :))

Wait, you can only get this with the aggresive personality? I saw the option on my current run since I'm also playing an aggresive Hawke, but I had planned to do this with a polite Hawke. Damn it...

It's also interesting to note the Arishok will find out of your collaboration with Petrice and Varnell, and tells you he is looking forward to your death.

I was only disappointed that I couldn't arrow her in the face myself.

@Zjercal: You only get the bottom-left ("persuade") aggressive option "Here's your proof" for Varnell if you have the aggressive personality. Otherwise you get the tone trio of trying to wriggle out of the trap Petrice set for you, while not convincing Varnell.

I love how you get bonus respect from the Arishok for killing his delegates and their reinforcments and rubbing it in his face. It makes his line "This is what respect looks like!" sound very interesting, even from the Arishok.

I can never bring myself to let her live. She needs to die, and I'm glad Elthina didn't react when the Qunari killed her. I think she was expecting that to happen.

I hate that **** so much I don't think I could ever do it, add to that, another playthrough is not in the cards. Not for a maybe a year or so to let me forget the game enough that I can pick it up again.

Ok, I gotta say, that really sucks (also read it in the wiki). What does tone have to do with this anyway? There's no logical reason why the dominant personality should decide whether you have the option to intimidate/persuade someone or not. It's not like a polite person can't have a moment of anger.

Bah. I wonder if there's a console command to temporarily change your dominant personality.

EDIT: Aha, there is a command!

Guys. Getting shot in the head and chest is wonderful and all but imagine this

Petrice is in the chantry, and Anders blows it up.

Anders is now redeemed and Petrice has perished in the worst way possible.

If she remained in the chantry after loosing her title, then it sounds like she was merely demoted and not completely defrocked.

That will make Act 3 better... Eh if I have to spare her from being the Qunari's target shooting, I better see her in that cutscene when the chantry glows all red...

So is it true that this option is only available for aggressive Hawke? Do you still get to kill Ser Varnell afterwards? Gosh I can't stand looking at that guy, he makes Emile De Launcet actually look bearable to tavern girls.

I do not think you can kill Ser Varnell, and you must kill the Delegates. Oddly the Arishok will still respect you. And as of now, it is unknown if you see Petrice in the scene. If you do however and tell me, all future playthroughs will be made with an aggressive Hawke. This I solemnly swear.

Yeah, I knew. And it disgusts me. Not just because Petrice is revolting and why would I ever side with her, but what the heck is choice doing in my DA2?

...I am now horribly conflicted between seeing that b**** getting shot one Act earlier, or knowing she dies via glowing pink poo bomb.

Well knowing what you'd have to do to get the alternative may just be enough to not want to do it.

But Petrice chunks everywhere!!!!

Eternal Conflict.

Because you get to give her orders?

These new scenes are fun. Now I just wait for the Act 3 scenes. Oh Anders. Make me proud!

Oooo! I really have to do this on this playthrough. I'm dying to ****** off the Arishok, especially.  How long does it take to reset your basic personality profile? I'm just at the end of Act 1 with a snarker. Side note: am I the only one who misses "persuade" options?
