I am a recent installer of Dragons Age Origins - Ultimate Edition.

I am running a Wintel box using System 7, 4 GB Ram, using Intel x5550 processors at 2.67 Ghz, ECC.  I have a 2-drive, 300 GB RAID array.  I also have dual monitors running on an nVidia Quadro NVS 290, with 256MB of vRAM.  I normally run at 1280 x 1024.

All of the latest updates are installed for system, drives, etc.

I have only just started playing the game.  I was at the Ostragar part of the game, when I decided I wanted to go back and load a previously saved game as I had missed some dialogue opportunities.  When I attempted to load the previous game, the game/system froze.  I could not alt-tab to switch, ctrl-alt-del, etc.  I eventually did a "hard reset" by holding down the power key.

Bad News!  I got a "unloadable system error" when I tried to restart, Windows Startup Recovery took over, and it couldn't boot, either.  Eventually I had to use System Restore to go back 24 hours (after installation, but before playing) in order to restart.

After running system diagnostics, etc., everything seemed fine, and I decided to try playing the game again.

This time, it froze at the opening splash screen. Wouldn't even get to the menu options of choosing how to start.

Same problem with restarting - I had to restart in Safe Mode first, then I could restart normally.

This is the only application I can tell that I have a problem with - it's the only program I've installed in more than 1 year on this PC.  Does anyone have any diagnostic suggestions, or ways to cut out cinematics, Active X or Direct X conflicts?

Frankly, I would suspect your video card. I haven't had a lot of experience with Quadro cards, but as I recall, the Quadro NVS series is primarily for business desktop applications and not 3D gaming. I don't even think the NVS series has active cooling or other features of a "gaming" card.  I know the FX series is used in 3D modeling applications, but I've never heard of anyone using an NVS for such.

Others here are the acknowledged experts on video cards... Gorath Alpha being one. This post of his might help: http://social.biowar...58/index/575571

You may be right. The video card has worked fine on other fairly high intense games, although I do use this machine primarily for business graphics. I am now attempting to uninstall the program, and go to a system restore point earlier. I have virtually constant crashing now, even if I'm only trying to open a notepad and type.
