This FAQ deals with the recommended PC hardware/OS requirements of the game. It includes some notes and observations gamers might consider when shopping for new hardware or troubleshooting performance issues.

Notes and Observations:
Based on the experience of some of our forum's users, the recommended video card hardware may not serve your needs. For example, consider longtime forum member Gorath Alpha's thoughts on the minimum hardware for Windows XP users:
For more information on desktop video cards and how they compare, read Gorath Alpha's post on the subject here:Gorath Alpha wrote...
IMO, the practical choices for the two video cards above should be the Radeon X800 Pro, and the Geforce 6800 GS, at least, for small textures - it will take a Radeon X1650 XT (or X1800 GTO, same thing, almost) for medium or better textures).
For Vista, the so-called minimum Radeon is pure Pie in the Sky fantasy. An x1550 is just a plain vanilla X1300 with another name, and is about half as fast as the already too-slow Geforce 6600 GT.

For Windows 7 Users
Since DAO was published in Nov. 2009, these specs don't specifically include Windows 7. However, many users run DAO on that platform-- refer to the Windows Vista minimums for Win 7.
For Laptop/Notebook Users
The "readme" that ships with the game also says: "Laptop or mobile versions of the above supported video cards have not had extensive testing and may have driver or other performance issues. As such, they are not officially supported in Dragon Age: Origins. Intel and S3 video cards are not officially supported in Dragon Age: Origins."
Nonetheless, many users with laptops with ATI or Nvidia mobile chipsets can indeed play the game. Laptop gamers should expect less performance when compared to their hardware's desktop equivalent-- you always trade some performance for mobility.
