How in-depth can it get?!

No game has great dialog 100% of the way through.... unless it's PS:T.

:P

But really, one facepalming conversation with an unimportant shop NPC a game does not make.

Shall I get some more facepalming conversations for you, then, from this god-awful game?

I have seen worse. Every game has it's share of terribad dialog. To be perfectly honest, the writing in Dragon Age 2 isn't bad. Don't know how you can believe otherwise. It may not be as good as previous iterations but the writing and voice acting stick out as elements of the game that turned out well from my perspective. With some exceptions, of course. But on the whole, decent.

You're right, Dialogue definitely isn't the worst in this game. It's the story that was the worst for me, it was just so bad. I hated the conversation wheel, too, because of whatever Hawke said, was not what I wanted him to say!

I just hate it when you choose "Politely decline proposal" as in ME2 and he just tells them to **** off getting them pissed off in the process.

Just what I wanted to say...<_<

I guess you can't really be polite in ME2, shepard doesn't roll that way. Paragon is good and renegade is sometimes evil and sometimes ruthless but with good intent. It doesn't make much sense really, I remember there was a renegade option for grassing on Mouse- which gains shepard nothing apart from getting him killed. Just evil for the sake of being evil really. Which is ridiculous when Shepard is supposed to be a big damn hero either way . Thane, who was like a father to him, didn't seem to mind either lol.

I think an ideal system would have tone and intent as seperate choices, but that's a lot of work understandably.

It's something Ive wondered about both for the ME series and DA2. In many cases when we speak to NPCs, its because we want something from them. Often our position is weak, we don't have anything to offer but we still need their help. In this case when the protagonist choose to say something that would normally make the NPC less likely to help, or straight out ****** him off that seems like an odd thing to do.

It feels unrealistic, and probably adds to the feeling that a lot of the dialogue is simply flavour with little consequence.

Excluding Liara, I really felt that the way Bioware handled the relationship process with Ashley was pretty well done. You didn't simply stumble into a romance with her there was typicaly some tact you had to work on, the same went for Jacob in ME2 (hey its an RPG).

Im not going to comment on DA2's dialogue here cause well a monkey could slam the buttons on his keyboard and win. "hey anders nice shoes"- you "I think im in love"-Anders

Dragon Age 2 has 1000x more sarcasm and wit than this rotten thread could ever hope to achieve.
