Anyone else worried about music continuity with the departure of Jack Wall?

I have to admit, I am a bit worried, for me ME+ is so great in part because of the epic, engrossing music.  Losing Sir Wall might make ME3 music-wise at least...strange.

Anyone else feel this way?

A lot of people seem to have confidence in Clint Mansell, but I too worry. It makes me concerned that the soundtrack will sound off and be even more instrumental and less sci-fi synth.

I am sure Mansell is fine...but the 1st two games are Wall so...that is my only concern.

Yeah, the music during the suicide mission was absolutely fantastic, as were many of the other scores. I'm sure the guy working on it now is top notch, though. There's really a lot of good composers out there.

Even with Wall leaving, I'm sure Bioware retains the right to the music he scored for the first 2 games. I just hope that some of the amazing music from ME 1 & 2 makes a return in ME3. I don't know anything about thr new guy, but I'm trying to have faith. So many thing I've suggested in there forums are now confirmed features for ME3 so Id like to think they're makiing the right choices.

I'm more worried about more lore incosistencies, but the music will be fine, I hope.
Clint Mansell is a professional, the only question is if he can blend in the tones created by Jack Wall.

I liked what the other composers (note the plural) did in places, but I like Clint Mansell's scores much more anyway. As for continuity, I can't see the issue... He's not scoring blind, when he's got 2 games worth of music to listen to for reference. Plus he scores to the subject - his scores don't all sound the same.

Stardusk78, if you'd like an example of a Clint Mansell score that's "epic and engrossing," but, which also has a strong emotional impact, I suggest you watch Aronofsky's "The Fountain" - not listen, but actually watch - otherwise you won't have any idea of how the score fits. It's basically an epic love story intertwined with life and death. Which happens to span space. Having said that, whether we'll get anything with this kind of emotional power in ME3 really depends on ME3's story - the Fountain was, at its core, a very emotional film.  Also, it was very unconventional source material to work with. Which I think that says a lot about Mansell - he obviously has no problem in understanding and extracting the emotional core of a story, regardless of how abstract the whole thing is.

I think you might be worrying too much. As long as it's not a complete departure from the other soundtracks I'm fine with it.

Mass Effect series has one of the most amazing music in the history of gaming. I hope it remains as such. I was was squeeing uninterrupted for the first time my Shepard met the Illusive man. From the musik, to sheen's awesome voice, amazing flowing star background, churning red and blue colors showing off the struggle Shepard is going through.

Dark, cool and smexy, just awesome. It was not as much emotionally engaging as say Assassin's creed II but sometimes in your life you want to be a bad ass and MEII is just for that.

Personally, I prefer orchestras to synths, even in sci-fi works, and I couldn't care less about "music continuity" (what does that even mean?).

Plus Clint Mansell is awesome.

All I want to hear is a liitle part of the new score. I'm so excited to see what his done with it, I feel I'm going to be disappointed. Hmmm, hopefully I won't be as I hope everyone else wont

Honestly, what is with all the hate for / doubt about Clint Mansell lately?

I'm a huge Jack Wall / Wall of Sound fan, but I think Mansell will do just fine with ME3.  Sure, he's got some big shoes to fill but it's Clint Mansell.  Do yourself a favor, go listen to his stuff, not just the moody / sad stuff, but things like the Sahara soundtrack or Smokin' Aces soundtrack.  He's a master at creating and capturing the mood in his music and I'm beyond stoked to hear what he's going to do with ME3.

Seriously.  Clint Mansell.

Anyway ME2 soundtrack was way more shallow than ME1.

In ME1 I remember all different theme from the game (some for less good reason). The only two I remember from ME2 (but they were epic) is the one where Joker show you the Normandy SR2 and the Suicidal Mission. And LoTSB theme if we count DLC.

It's still BioWare who decide what kind of music they want to put. Mansell can't just decide to put that kind of sound if the project lead don't want it...

Can't say I care that much about this stuff.

I actually only notice the soundtrack when it's really bad. So as long as it's not bad, it'll probably fly right over my head.

What about Samara's theme? That was well done, if not a hint of mysticism in it.

And the Collector Ship theme... many have said that it's a twisted version of Vigil's.

I'm not so much worried about the quality of the music - I know Mansell will compose some great stuff for it. But my big worry is definitely the continuity - not in style, but in content.

I felt ME2 didn't utilise the Mass Effect Theme enough, and now the composer has changed, I just hope he takes a look back at what went before and uses the familiar tune. I've seen too many movie sequels that have great music, but did away with the themes of their predecessors.

Yes I've heard his sci-fi scores, and yes he is a great composer, but I've found his scores to be more on the dramatic, moody, and even slightly on the horror side. I just worry that his sound may not blend well with the styling of Mass Effect. But maybe i'm just being paronoid. :?

Don't worry about the ingredients, worry about the chef. Mansell is talented, anything he does will be good.

They've already gone orchestral with ME2. They need to go back to ME1's theme. That's what gave the series its uniqueness. Now it's another halo/GoW/CoD

That's my concern. I'm not that familiar with Mansell's work, but given how distinctive ME's music has been so far, I'm a little worried that ME3's score will miss the mark.

If you even notice the score outside of huge climactic moments the composer failed to do his job. To be honest, as long as Clint sticks to the same tropes that ME and ME2 had I doubt anyone will hear a difference.
