There was already a lack of continuity between ME and ME2.

They've already gone orchestral with ME2. They need to go back to ME1's theme. That's what gave the series its uniqueness. Now it's another halo/GoW/CoD

That's completely false. Both scores had orchestral elements and they both fit the theme of the games. The Mass Effect 2 score was more orchestral than the first one (and it was a much better score in my opinion) but still had elements of the score from the first game.

As far as Clint Mansell, no, I'm not worried at all. A lot of the people on here seem to be scared of anything in these games changing.

You guys are just being paranoid... Mansell sounds very much like Wall when he mixes orchestrated scores with electronic sci-fi ambience.

I have to admit, I am a bit worried, for me ME+ is so great in part because of the epic, engrossing music.  Losing Sir Wall might make ME3 music-wise at least...strange.

Anyone else feel this way?

That's my concern. I'm not that familiar with Mansell's work, but given how distinctive ME's music has been so far, I'm a little worried that ME3's score will miss the mark.

Well, he did do Lux Aetera, which is pretty famous...

This, I think musical continuity should be the least of our worries.

*Bangs head on desk*

When you first said this my intial thought was 'And, wtf is that?' until bashing it into Google and realising I knew it better as Requiem for a Dream.:P

I'm not as a worried as I once was. So long as he keeps the synth emphasis that Wall did, I'm sure it'll be a serviceable soundtrack at least :D

I think Clint Mansell will NOT dissapoint us. Casey Hudson will also listen to Clint Mansell, and if Casey Hudson DOESN'T like what he is hearing, he will tell Clint Mansell that!

NO WORRIES!

Nope. Looking forward to a new composer, even if I loved the old stuff. Change.

No i'm not worried about changes as long as they're for the better. Being able to evolve the sound and changing it are two different things. I thought Wall did a good job of evolving the musical score from the first game, he added things but mostly they were based on elements from the first game. I'm a fan of a lot of composers John Williams, Hans Zimmer, John Barry, Marty O'Donnell, as well as Clint Mansell. And they all have their own style, some things are simular but there's differences.
My worries stem from the fact that I haven't heard anything Mansell has done in the style of Mass Effect, and before anyone asks yes i've heard New Moon, and while that movie is in the Sci-fi genre, the score was fit for that movie, which isn't really the same type of Sci-fi Mass Effect is.

Yes I am worried about the musical continuity. I don't think there is anyone here who really doubts Mansell ability merely his desire and willingness to fit his work seamlessly into a story that has been 2/3 told and had it's musical parameters pretty much set. It's going to be like LOTR: ROTK being done by someone besides Howard Shore or John Williams getting replaced on a Star Wars film.

Yes i've heard that peace and it is very simular to the suicide mission them......maybe too simular<_<.

But that's Murray Gold, not Clint Mansell. And i never said no one could do it.

I don't know why you would think he would sign on and do something half-assed. I guess Casey Hudson and the others at Bioware don't give a damn about the series and just hired the first guy they saw.

I am sure that Mansell will deliver great OST. But my concern is about its style. I want more ME1 electronic style. Arrival did it right so I hope that Clint will focusing on something like this.

And also it will suck if old themes like Vigil, ME theme, spectre induction etc. wont make it back. Which I doubt but you never know.

Why would the Vigil or spectre induction themes be in Mass Effect 3?

There really isn't much change between the soundtracks in ME1 & 2 besides ME2's being more dramatic, certainly not a lack of musical continuity. There are elements from ME1 all over the place in ME2. The presentation changed (no music in hub places for example) and that's is what's far more noticeable.

I'm sure Mansell will do a great job and it's not like the music from the previous games is going somewhere, never to be heard from again...

Because they were in ME1 and also in ME2. I cant imagine ME 3 without them. Vigil especially.

Well Vigil theme was in Mass Effect 2 twice.

There was also Flux music, ME1 main theme and ME1 romance theme.

So they could keep some in ME3.

Flux music wasn't in ME2... They made some better rave music Image IPB

I liked Omega's slow jazz-like trance music.

Actually, "Spectre Induction" just quotes the "Mass Effect Theme", and that's what is also used in ME2.
