I like it better when he joins the Wardens.

First run Bethany joined the Wardens.
Second run Carver joined the Templars.
Third run Bethany joins the Circle.
Fourth run Carver joins the Wardens.
Fifth run ... not sure yet, we'll see.

Bethany seems to be a nice, sweet younger sibling — so how do folks justify having Meredith run her through?! Look, I like to role play just as much as the next person, but I guess offing nice, sweet younger sibling crosses a personal red line.

Agreed.  I don't know how people stomach that.  I can't even watch it on Youtube.

Runs:

1- Carver became a Templar.
2- Bethany became a Warden.
3- Bethany died in the Deep Roads.

So far I like Carver as a Templar more than any of the others. Of course, I was pro-mage and Carver was a Templar. It felt personal and well done. Something the two Bethany's didn't.

Having played through too many times now and seen all 3 options for both siblings I like Grey Warden Carver best. I think his story and character growth is more interesting than Bethany's.

First run: Carver - Warden. I put Anders in there for a healer because mageHawke was no healer - yet. Lucky choice in hindsight. I enjoyed meeting him again at the end-game, he was much easier to stomach.

Second run: Bethany - Circle. I don't know how that will end, because it's unfinished, and will be that for a while.

I still have to get Carver into the Wardens, probably during my next game. Taking them down there without Anders along is probably one of those things I'll never do - like killing Dog in DAO. It makes me sad and it doesn't seem like it would add anything interesting to to the game. It's not as though Hawke doesn't have enough dead family members to angst about as it is.

Exactly the same as me. I didn't think anything would happen when I left Carver at home on my second playthough, so I skipped through the deep roads thinking all was well, then I got back and "Oh snap!".

My favourite so far has been circle mage Bethany, warden Carver has been pretty good so far (just finished Finding Nathaniel today) but I don't think it's better.

After five playthroughs it was all the above. On my first playthrough Carver was dead and Bethany died in the Deep roads. Hawke went on to become Viscount!

First time, Carver resolved to play Templar. All the others he was made a Warden.
I haven't played with Bethany nor plan to. I'd enough of her boring ass, watching my bf play a rogue, to ever think of saving her instead of Carver.

The only two things I haven't done are make Bethany a Grey Warden and kill either sibling.

I will never make carver a templar EVER i do not want my brother to become a lyrium addicted puppet of the chantry so I always send him off with the grey wardens since he can forge his own path with them more easily.

Carver as a Warden and Bethany as a circle mage. That's what sticks for me, especially since Carver looks ridiculously wrong as a templar and realizes that your brotherhood is more important to him than his desire to prove himself. Well, at least he gets to prove himself through a nobler purpose.

As for Bethany; she hates her life as a Warden. Sure, she tries to reassure you that she ultimately understands your decision, but I'm not so certain she's being genuine about it. That's why I never take her to the Deep Roads anymore.

I like Carver as a Templar and Bethany in the Circle. I find Meredith and Orsino equally lame, so it's nice to at least have family in the mix during Act 3. Getting Bethany back made the ending much more satisfying.

1st playthrough Carver became a Warden. I had no idea he could die in the deep roads until I read it here.
2nd playthrough Bethany went to the circle. I did it for dramatic effect, turns out she's happier in the circle.

Third time, I had Meredith execute Bethany. I was playing a real templar fanatic.

Is it possible to kill Carver as a templar? He was such a whiny jerk on my first and third playthroughs (Wardenized him the second, and yeah, I did three mage playthroughs with different specs) that I was *trying* to find a combination of responses that would leave him siding with Meredith so I could kill him, martyrdom in the Deep roads being too good for him ;) - but he always mumbled something about not her not making him kill his own sister in the end :/.

Anyone out there actually manage to kill him?

I was not spoiled at all before buying the game so my decisions were not planned.

1. First play through I left Bethany at home because I was worried about losing a sibling to another cut scene death.

2. Second time around I took Bethany with me because I thought I could keep her away from the templars, and she died.

3. After the first two times I googled this choice and found out how to make Bethany into a warden... and at that point I made her a warden.

As for Carver, the man has serious issues. I quit playing moments after Bethany died after it became clear what a douche Carver is.

Just wanted to add that after knowing what all the alternatives are, I never went back to getting my sibling killed. Though if I can withstand Carver's attitude for the whole of Act 1 then death will probably be the fate I choose for him.
