I stand corrected. Pulled up my old Mattock/Widow save, and you're right, I had it spec'd to Heightened. My bad!

Yeah, like AK404 was saying, Heightened typically favors low RoF (eg: Widow), while Hardened favors high RoF (eg: Revvy), but the Mattock is the exception, as it doesn't really get its RoF capped by either ARush...

..I think someone eventually did find the RoF cap on the Mattock, but even under ARush it was well above the rate at which a human could tap a mouse button.

Yeah there is a cap, but I thought you COULD achieve it under Heightened. To be honest though, I haven't even played soldier on insanity. Never really had a serious soldier playthrough, but perhaps that's what I need at this point.

Guess I'd still go with the Revenant though, it's just a cool weapon.

^The Rev does a few things the Mattock doesn't, so it's not like you're gimping yourself in any real way.

@OP: What form of Adrenaline Rush you take shouldn't be determined by what AR you use. It should be based on what weapon you take from the Collector Ship.

Widow = Heightened Adrenaline Rush
Revenant = Hardened Adrenaline Rush

If you take the Widow, the Mattock is your best bet for an AR if you have the DLC, and failing that, the Vindicator Battle Rifle. If you take the Revenant, use the Viper Sniper Rifle.

I haven't met many Soldiers that take the Claymore, but I imagine Heightened is the way to go for that as well.

Either I'm doing it wrong, or headshots aren't worth it with shotguns.

On Insanity, I get one-hit kills far more often by aiming at the torso.

Because the shotgun's damage consists of 8 pellets and having all of them hit by aiming at a broader area of the body will result in more damage.
With ARush however it's much easier to aim and and going for a headshot with a shotty is better from my experience.

It ain't really necessary, but as Heightened AR gives enough time to aim properly aswell as to close the distance, why not ram that Claymore and its might up the enemy face if you're at it.

It is satisfying ... Image IPB

I've only tried the Mattock a few times, but I fail to see the advantage of combining it with Adrenaline Rush. The Revenant, though... HARRHARRHARR. It's easy as pie to stay on target and tears through the bad guys like butter.

Heightened AR gives you +140% damage to your weapon.  Seeing how the Mattock can be fired as quickly as you can click the mouse, the simple math tells us that the Mattock can lay more hate and discontent on the target faster than the Revenant.

Oh, okay. I've actually always used Hardened, so I forgot about that. Guess I shoulda kept my mouf shut.

Hardened works great with the Mattock too.  I just prefer Heightened for those times when I use a sniper rifle or heavy pistol.  Truth is, though, once I get the Revenant I don't normally have to go to a backup weapon since it has so damned much ammo.  Maybe I should use hardened with the Revenant since your leaned out of cover more...
