Merrill is generic BioWare Joss Whedon "Rambling and saying whats on the top of your mind without thinking = Funny (not really)" clone #1701.

And the end of her quest I was like "WTF? That's what happens when you pick the good route? Jesus Christ, this loon just made me massacre an entire village and I'm supposed to be the good guy! How the hell wrote this???"

Merrill had nothing to do with the dalish being ignorant and thinking they could take on the champion and company, just cause merrill possibly killed the keeper, along with her use of blood magic

yes, merrill had NOTHING

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING

WHATSOEVER

to do with the fact that her ENTIRE clan went all apesh*t on her

heres the part where TEWR gives 23236 reasons why thats actually true and i completely ignore him because his logic and common sense is an unwelcome disruption to my trolling

I liked DAO Merrill. She was secure, knowledgable and not all babble-like when meeting new people...a shem to boot.

She does have an amazing ability instead of aging she *youthens* over time.

Eth will be displeased this thread was necro'ed. Image IPB

Merrill was a decent character imo, but my Dalish Elf Warden will skin her alive once he hears that she wiped out his entire clan.

She didn't wipe them out, they wiped themselves out on the Champion and friends. Anyone who attacks the protagonist of an RPG should have their death recorded as suicide.

I never really like Merrill and Sebastian. They both are kinda annoying, naive, and blindness in their obsession.

I like Merrill, I don't really understand why almost all the blood mages in DA2 were evil, certailny it wasn't that way in DAO. Either way, Merrill is still a good person, if she's around in DA3 she should probably be joining forces with Morrigan, they both are very interested in those mirrors and all :) .

The reason that most blood mages are evil is because doing deals with demons distorts your sanity and ego. Every word a demon speaks to you plays on your emotions and inner memories/thoughts. Merrill was probabley already aware of this so thats why she doesn't seem to "crazy" but I do believe that her stubborness is a side effect from being around a Pride demon. "i have to be the saviour" "My people are all wrong for being afraid of my dealings with a demon who I will control defeat". Such rubbish

IMO, Merrill is simply stuck in the "bad things happen to everyone but it won't happen to me" thing. Like a smoker - "sure cigarettes cause cancer and early death most of the time but, my great uncle's third cousin thrice removed smoked from when he was 10 and, he lived to be 105 so, I will too." She simply refuses to believe that sh will suffer the same fate 90% of all blood mages suffer. No not all because obviously it is possible to be a blood mage and not become an abomination, but it's HIGHLY unlikely.

I have yet to succeed in killing her, but I don't put her in my party unless I have to, same for Anders, and most of the time I tell him to GTFO after Dissent. Even as a mage Hawke, I don't do crazy, possessed or otherwise just plain dumb mages.

I don't think most of the companions need to die, but instead need to stay dead if killed. I found it okay when Anders did it, but it would just be unreasonable if bioware pulls that again. Most of the companions could be fought and killed in the end, I know I killed Merril, so those who want her gone can do that. They can just appear as cameos, only Hawke and Varric are that important to the plot for larger roles (thus those two couldn't die or leave).

Only companion who really needs a death is Isabela, seemed idiotic that she gets away from the Qunari two days later if you chose that path. She can live for those who like her, but those who loath her should get equal opportunity to kill her off as the rest of the companions, instead of a cop-out which makes the Arishok look bad when you keep him alive. For those who liked Isabela and the Arishok, it could have been a potentially emotional decision of who lives if it wasn't for that ending.

IMO they should all stay dead (once either your pc mage or Anders has revivial ability) Unless you go to where they died and revive them. (Yes that might mean going back to get Anders and, if they die in the final battle, then they are gone for good (unless you keep Anders for that too).

At the least they should be a ghost following you unable to interact or fight unless you revive them and reclaim their gear.

I suspect we will NEVER see Merrill again. The only DA:2 cameo in DA:3 will be Varric

Heaven I hope not, though I can see Varric, and even Isabella showing up again, possibly Sebastian, if he takes the Starkhaven throne. As for Merrill, she needs to stay gone or wise up and grow up A LOT. no more ditz. If DA3 gives me a ditz, I will not recruit them, or if I find out too late, I'll find a way to rid myself of the ditz ASAP.

I don't understand why people like Merril to be honest. Shes funny a little bit here and there but her obsession with fixing that mirror no matter the cost just ruins any chance of her being like able.
The mirror alone wouldn't be bad but know its relation to demons and how she even had a demon help seals the deal. If it was just affecting her than I'd be ok people can learn from her mistakes but she drags Hawke into this and it gets her whole clan killed.
If she felt any regret or sadness then she never showed because as soon as we get back to Kirkwall she's acting like nothing happened.
One of the worst characters on DA2 and my only regret is she survived the end.

Dealing with demons shouldn't make  aperson evil. Hell if I was in the DA world I'd be a blood mage by default. I'd make a fdeal with a demon if I had to. Assuming I couldn't manage to appeal to a more benevolent spirit. Demons are easy power, but thoretically a strong enough wil should hold any problems at bay.

Consider that Hawke/The Warden can both possibly be blood mages (with the Warden needing to deal with a demon to do so canonically) while not actually being outright evil. Merrill's flaw isn't so bad in itself IMO.

Personally it's because in DAO she was a normal, intelligent young woman and in DA2 she is a complete ditz - stereotypical dumb blond sort of character.

Exactly =l

Her being a blood mage and loving a Shemlen isn't really a reason for her to die anyway...

IMO, I don't see how anyone who played Origins as Mahariel could like her. She is obsessed with the mirror that nearly ended Mahariel's life and killed one of her clanmates...she was there, she should know better. As for her dying...she seemed to remorseful at the end of DA2. I'd rather let the Warden deal with her.
