Merrill really wasn't a full-fledged blood Mage, and the keeper never told her that she trapped the demon within herself. Merrill never had all the facts I will admit though that trusting a demon was gullible; like a kid trusing a pedo. Still, her heart was in the right place.

On a side note, wouldn't using blood magic be painful? You'd have to be carving yourself up constantly.

Yes she was. Did you play DA2? She used it all the time.

as long as there is a source of blood, a blood mage doesn't need to cut themselves.

You'd still have to get the blood out of your body, and that would need to involve something that opens up blood vessels (cutting or puncturing).

She didn't have the same abilities that standard blood mages have. She could use her blood in place of mana, but that's it.

No, you could use other people's blood...IE, those noobs Hawke & Co. are slicing up on a regular basis.

Merrill doesn't have the 'blood sacrifice' ability. No one else's hit points ever decrease; only her's do. Plus, blood Mages still use their own blood to cast spells. They can use blood sacrifice to suck the blood from their companions, but they still use their own blood to cast spells in battle, and that would require cutting or puncturing themselves.

Lore and game mechanics often don't mix.

Lore wise= Merrill is an full fledged blood mage.

Game mechanics: she doesn't have all of its abilities.

Very True.

Just because she is not as powerful as Quentin is, the fact
of the matter is she is still a Blood Mage.

I found her character hard to relate too, I liked her cuteness but her decsions eluded me. She needs to do a bit of growing up in 3 that is for sure.

I want to slap Aveline instead cuz i never seen one so bitter, boring and such completely lack of humor it just made me "yawn" through the whole game.

If you had paid attention, while playing the game, you would notice that she does have her moments and besides. There will always be the so-called "level-headed" characters in RPGs as far as I'm aware. Her sense of humor is just a bit more subtle. It's fine if you don't like the character. Just pointing it out.

EDIT: Just noticed this is a really old thread.

Aveline was pissed because the writers wrapped a fruit roll
up around her head and she had to resist the urge to eat it.

Most people just fall for Merrill's big 'moe-factor': big eyes, innocent looks and cuteness all around. It's the same with people liking Isabela, in most cases just for her boobs.

Her sense of humour is even fairly obvious in her later banters with Isabela, and some of her conversations with SillyHawke. There's hilarious banter with her and some of the companions in the DLC quests too.

Well don't forget that Izzy has a big butt too, some folks are into that sort of thing.

Very true, Im not Avelines greatest fan but she does have her moments and i like her. And @ the topic im truely not a Merrill fan but i for sure dont wanna see her dead just because she is a blood mage. :/

@Ivandra: And where are people like me then? Who like her for who she is? I don't fall for her cuteness, nor Isabela's assets. I honestly like their personalities.
