So I'm trying to garner Friendship points with Fenris while being a mage sympathizer. The problem is, most of Fenris' friendship comes from siding against mages (which I feel is a problem with Friendship and Rivalry. You end up having to compromise the beliefs of your characters just to gain points in whatever direction you want a character to go). Sadly, I feel I may have to compromise some beliefs.

So any help on how to get friendship with Fenris without siding against mages would be greatly appreciated. Also, I'm planning on romancing Merrill, so romancing Fenris is out. I will make a comprehensive list of all possible friendship points so other people know and I will give due credit to those who help make this list.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Courtesy of LobselVith8 and KoD for how to gain Friendship:

  • Trip to Gallows - Say the Circle is necessary - 5 points
  • Long Way Home - Agressive option when Merrill opens the barrier - 10 points
  • Wayward Son - Kill Danzig after magic fisting - 10 points

  • Wayward Son - Tell Slaver to go ahead and kill Feynriel - 10 points?

  • Fenris Recruited - Say you thought about returning to Ferelden, investigate options, it's a good plan, and to make a home in Kirkwall - 20 points.

  • A Bitter Pill - Fenris is a free man - 5 points
  • A Bitter Pill - Give Orana a job and tell Fenris this - 15 points

  • Demands of the Qun - Agreeing to duel the Arishok - 10 points

  • Book of Shartan -

  • Blade of Mercy -

  • Night Terrors - Reject Torpor's offer - 5 points

  • Gamlen's Greatest Treasure - Tell Charade to visit Gamlen - 10 points

In "Wayward Son," telling Danzig he can't go after letting Fenris put his hand through his chest provides 10 Friendship points. Later on, when the slaver has a knife to Feynriel's neck, telling the slaver to go ahead and kill Feynriel provides more Friendship points (but not the rogue "special" move where the murder knife goes into his neck). However, sending Feynriel to the Dalish causes Fenris to lose points.

In Fenris Recruited, tell him you thought about returning to Ferelden or that Lothering is gone, and then choose the investigation option, ask him how long since he escaped, how long he has been alone, if he's sure, and tell him it's a good plan, then say he can make a home here (which should give you 20 Friendship points).
For Act II, starting Bitter Pill, tell the slavers that Fenris "isn't a slave" and after they are dead, tell Fenris, "We go get them."

Also, the gift "The Book of Shartan" is avaliable in the Alienage at night in a sack.

Agree to single combat with the Arishok for 10 Friendship points.

In Act III, tell Hawke's cousin to meet her father Gamlen for 10 Friendship points.

During "Best Served Cold," the Blade of Mercy can be given to Fenris.

In act one i get the +10 from Danzig, +10 for scolding Merrill for summoning demon (This is before you get her, no rivalry with her, this alo gives Anders +10 Aveline +5 and Carver +5 i beleive.)
The 20 you mentioned for talking to him. Take him to the gallows and agree with him +5 (This will give rivalry with your mages, just only bring him) This is againt mages i know, but it is just a conversation, i think you can live with it.
Also speaking with him right after you get him, there you will prolly only have a + friendship without any mages in the party. If you are a mage yourself you will get rivalry, the lowest is +5 riv.

That's enough for act 1. During his perosnal quest there should be more than enough to almost max him out. Fenris is not as slave, as mentioned +5. Giving Orana a job +5. Being nice to him after Hadriana is dead can net +10 without turning against mages.
Then at home in your mantion shoul be another +10, questioning beleifs +10 and if you still have ways to go a romance will do the trick or there plenty more ot get.

Edit:
And Night Terrors of course.
+5 for killing Anders when about to side with Torpor +5 for killing torpor afterwards and +5 for nice response when he turns on you i think.
Having justice turn on you gives alot of Anders rivalry however. You can still get +10 from night terrors without having Anders side against you i think.

You can convince Fenris to take the Blade of Mercy. If you do, he gets + 15 Friendship if already on the Friendship path. If you keep it, it's only + 10.

Act of Mercy -- convince the mages to surrender to the Templars inside the cave, +5 Friendship, hand them over to the Templars outside the cave, +5 Friendship, I think.

Did you bother to read op's post? He wants to be pro-mage, handing over the starkhaven mages and Feynriel is pretty much the opposite.

Nope, you can actually romance him as a female character.

Hell, I'll have to have a think about this now - I've always managed to accidentally max friendship Fenris, and both full playthroughs have been cautiously pro-mage, and he's always sided with me at the end.

Me too, if you do his companion quests without being actively pro-magic, you can get him almost to full friendship with just that.

If your refuse to give Merrill the tool for her mirror (in Act 2), you get friendship points from that for Fenris.

Also, during Ander's Act 2 quest, when he attacks the girl, Ella, if you pick the conversation option with the star (to stop him from killing her), I think Fenris gives friendship points.

Also, when you go to rescue Feynriel from the slavers, if you just attack them straight away without trying to trick them or negotiate for Feynriel's life, you get friendship.

Afraid I don't know exactly how many points he gives.

Its very easy to be pro-mage and still be 50% friendship with fenris by act2's beginning. (Which you need in order to romance him. His romance wont trigger if you do A Bitter Pill before you get his Questioning Beliefs quests ;p)

All you have to do, is be anti-slaver. Also, if you're planning on being VERY pro-mage, then leave Fenris at home for those quests.

Let him fist Danzig, then tell him "no" when he asks to go. Bring Varric along for the ride when you go after Feynriel.  Varric can sweet talk the guy(which nets you friendship with varric) - and then when he backs down and says "take him", tell the slaver he can't leave. Fenris will say "Time to die, little man" and you'll get 10+ friendship.

There are other places to get Friendship with out having to be anti-mage as well. Fenris is more anti-slavery then he is Anti-mage. He dislikes them, and is very mistrustful of them, but over all you'll get a better reaction out of him if you're anti-slaver.

http://dragonage.wik...(Dragon_Age_II)

The link is a list of all the main quests in each act. Scan them for + riendship and +rivalry gains for each party member. You'll get a good idea of which ones not to bring Fenris on/which ones you'll gain friendship with him on and still be able to remain pro-mage ;p

Its metagaming a bit, but if you're going for pro-mage/Fen-ship, its the easiest way :)

however the ella one and the slavers one are instantly followed by choices that give you rivalry of similar amounts unless you side against mages o_O

Really? Which choices are they?

I can't remember very well, it's been a while since I last tried to max Fenris' friendship or rivalry instead of leaving him to it.

EDIT: I remember the Ella one now - it's telling her to return to the Circle or escape from Kirkwall, right? I still can't remember the slaver one though.

It's the conversation with Feynriel after the slavers are killed where you can get him to go to the circle or run away to the Dalish.

It was annoying I'm just doing a playthrough to get friendship with both Anders and Fenris and noticed the rivalry hit after the friendship on those. But it's possible to get them both to friendship about a quarter of the way into act two as I've just managed it.

Oh yes, I remember now. How annoying. It explains why my rivalry/friendship gets cancelled out sometimes.

1st act:

-trip to the gallows as you said you can get 5 points by saying circle is usefull,
-also when you go to darktown to ask slavers about feynriels wherabouts he does his magic fisting thing and gets +10,
-next on the same quest, when you go to the wounded coast to pick up feynriel, when you get to the slavers pick the option where you tell the slavers you will kill them, which means direct assault, that will give you another +10,
-when you get to speak to feynriel tell him to go to the circle, youll get another +10
-next time in gallows when you get a letter for thrask about his killed daughter tell thrask to give you money for information, that will get you another +5 (just dont take aveline or varric, they will frown on that)

act 2: you can get up to 15 points in talking to him in his mansion
i think you will have enough for questioning beliefs by then, and you can tank up more FP on that one,
next you can get a ton of points on bitter pill. if i remmeber any more quests that dont involve mage hating ill post.

this is my second fenris friendship playthrough, i finished one with rivalry romance and i didnt really like it, it didnt click on me. he is much more calm and looks happier when you have him as a friend :)

I'm doing his questioning beliefs right now for Act 2 but it's not giving me any Friendship points. Is it supposed to? If so, what choices do I need to say?

Have you done "A bitter pill" yet?
That and his QB tangles up, so only one part gives f/rp

QB first = no f/rp when concluding bitter pill
Bitter Pill first = No f/rp durin QB
Unless you romance him.

if your friendship points are maxed you will not get any more points, so no worries if you are doing his questioning beliefs it means you are allready high on his friendhip meter. if its not maxed out you will get tons of more points on the bitter pill so no worries.

Doing anything to kill slavers gives you friendship points with Fenris :).

And then when you have full Friendship you can side with as many mages as you like XD. Although I still feel weird about it with Fenris in the party. Like he could give you really weird looks as you're supporting Merrill's blood magic T_T.

Fenris and Aveline don't clash also, if you need a good party set up where you won't lose friendship with Fenris; Aveline is a good party member imo :).
