- Graphics... Boring and bland really, lets be honest. Apart from the
opening scene where you walk through the fire and up the stairs outside
to see space, the rest of the game is just face in palm boring! And,
from what I have heard ME3 doesn't look much better, but that's just
what I heard!

This bit alone makes you sound like a troll.

"____ was crap and my _____ the other day who works for ____ told me that it's still crap!"

Enough of the hyperbole, ME2 had environments that were far more fleshed out and gorgeous than ME1.

As a moderator I would hope that you would be the last person to call or insinuate that someone may be a troll.  Especially if you can only call out one example out of many that they bring up.  Either respond to the example minus the call of hyperbole and "this makes you sound like a troll" or don't respond at all.

I don't agree that the graphics are bland.  There are some truly spectacular views, but when you spend almost half an hour to an hour designing a face in the first game only to have it rendered terrible in the second you're going to find yourself a bit annoyed about it.  By the way, the pun was unintended.

People actually used grenades outside of deprogramming the infected colonists?

grenades were awesome, just wish you could have bought more at stores instead of relying on randomness replinishing them. if you did it right it really opened up the ability to get very offensive vs a room already filled with enemies. anything that had some form of cc (crowd control) effect was very useful when entering rooms or getting into an area with several enemies in it or when enemies rarely used cover.

also to the OP, while I do really like ME1 and still play it to this day, ME2 150+ Best of awards kind says otherwise.

Funny, I never found them useful, nothing they could do my trusty sniper rifle with high explosive rounds couldn't.

I started using them recently like traps at choke points. I like seeing mother****as fly. Or on enemies that won;t come out of cover.

Oh wow,  Avatar in the house.   Sure it was a technical masterpiece but there is no way it was best picture quality.

ME1 has a better story and more satisfying ending.

ME2 has better combat, better graphics, better dialog, better missions, and they removed the useless item grab. Even though the ME plot missions is lacking the companion subplots are excellent and taken for what it is overall is better than ME1.

Both great games, but ME2 is objectively better. May not have the replayability of ME1, but it is a better gaming experience.

They can always replay the game with its outdated mechanics.

People really go by reviews and awards.. outstanding.

To me its not hard ME1 is still the Mass Effect game i love, ME2 tried to be a better action/shooter and the rest of the game suffered alot from this, i play ME2 because its a sequel to ME1 otherwise i would pass for sure, and the same is going to happen with ME3 although i sure hope we get a game much closer to what ME1 was.

@OP
Ah yes, you see there are these things called opinions and facts. You seem to think they are the same thing.
If you think ME1 is better thats great and I repect your opinion. And if you hate ME2 then thats fine aswell.
But you seem to think that your one opinion is all so the opinion of everybody else in the world.
If you cant accept that people disagree with you then why are you on a forum designed for disscussion with others who have different opinions?

Why do you think he/she is a troll? Because he/she has a different opinion to you? (Regardless of wether or not he/she is willing to accept different opinions)
If so how are you any better than the OP? If you think the enviroments were better in ME2 (Which I myself dissagree with) than in ME2 then thats your opinion but it is not a fact.
Its a shame that you are moderating this site and yet you refuses to egknowledge other's opinions.

It's not about having a different opinion but using such a statement as "proof" that "ME1 vs ME2 = ME1 WINS"

Using language like "really dumbed down", "Casual audience", "And, from what I have heard ME3 doesn't look much better, but that's just what I heard!", , language that is all heavily biased and slanted towards one side, without actually going in and explaining both points was why I said that in the first place. I apologize OP for mentioning "troll" in the comment, perhaps it looks more serious than I meant it to.

@ OP - Not that I didn't love ME over ME2, but is this thread really necessary? Because hasn't it been done to death about a zillion and a half times already with generally the same ending result?

edit -removed thought

I was kind of hoping people would just let this thread die. It is not like we haven't had enough of these threads, and everything the OP said has been said before.

Even the N7 missions in ME2, while far fewer in number than the Uncharted Planets in ME1, were of higher quality.

Throwing in things like vision obscuring fog, or having red sand flare up biotics, or that one N7 mission where you're retrieving data from a wrecked ship, were all things that for me, make ME2's N7 missions better than ME1.

Technically, they're an improvement as well, with varying structures and modelling on the inside, rather than the cut and paste ME1 planet bases.

ME1 is an incredible game, and is one of my most favorite games, but you shouldn't neglect all the areas the game left for improvement.

yeah I prefer 2 over 1 but mainly I think thast's because of ME1's DRM rubbish
