I'm using an Infiltrator right now and while I do love the Mantis, I'm really set back by the limited fire rate of the weapon. I forsook the Widow when I played with my Soldier and tore things up with the Viper/Revenant combo. I know the Widow is just a stronger version of the Mantis, but is it overkill on Veteran? I don't like playing on Hardcore/Insanity because I love utilizing biotics, whether they be mine or my squad mates, too much. Thanks in advance.
Is the Widowmaker really necessary on anything below Hardcore?

Yes, Widow is unnecessary on Veteran.

But Widow still my perfect gun, no matter the level...the Mantis just doesn't give me that same warm glow inside....
Actually CandleJack, I just very recently played my first Insanity game and I found it really taught me a lot about how to best utilize Biotics, I had been under using them until that game...I have learnt so much about their potential and how to use them from that game.

There's no kill like overkill.

Yep, I think it's overkill on lower difficulties. The Claymore is as well I think. Both guns are still fun to use.
The Scimitar becomes an absolute beast on lower difficulties by the way.

I don't find the widow fun to play with, though it's as powerful as hell. It just makes anything under insanity to easy, so i only use it on insanity to make life a little easier

Disagreed. If you'd ever achieve overkill, there'd be by definition no possible improvement to be had. Overkill is like perfection. You want it, but you should never achieve it, because thereafter, there is nothing more to strive for.
And for the OP:
Necessary: No.
Fun and satisfactory: Hell yeah!

Well, there's always a bigger overkill
Against a single merc enemy:
One nuclear bomb = overkill
Two nuclear bombs at the same time = double the fun
