But my fanfiction has a wedding AND the Starkhaven Armada!

That doesn't make sense, Starkhaven is a inland city, how can they have a armada?

The same way Nebraska has an armada.

Or, alternatively, they did it Soviet-style, where they built the ships on land then had the peasentry carry them on their backs all the way to the sea.

True. And i suppose you can compare USA to Free Marches, so far i know they are the inspiration to the country anyway..

Uh, I don't think the USA has any influence on Thedas, it's mostly based on medieval Europe. The Free Marches mostly resemble northern Germany to me; Nevarra is a lot like Prussia and that was formerly a Free Marches city that's grown far beyond the others in importance, same as Prussia did.

Indeed. City states (free marches) is either medievil germany or ancient greece. Orlais is france. Fereldan is scotland I suppose, being a nation that fought for its freedom and the terrible weather. Trivinter being an evil empire, and the accents, make them appear english.

Yes, the only thing remotely American in this game is the Dwarven accents with a select view like Bodahn being an exception, anything else is based on European and Eurasian Countries/Societies/Cultures.

Ferelden is England. The devs have explicitly compared it to being as if Anglo-Saxon England had ousted the Normans circa 1200 AD, this being mirrored in the ousting of the Orlesians.

I believe Highever is based on Scotland and Ireland, being the northern part of the country that was eventually subdued militarily (the Scots had a bit more luck in keeping their independence until it was done via royalty and treaties). Plus everybody's got Celtic names, like Gilmore and Fergus and Aedan.

Tevinter is the Byzantine Empire, speaking the Queen's Latin.

Ah tevinter being byzantine makes sense since the catholicism/orthodoxy divide. At first I was going to say fereldan was england, but then though it was tivinter.

If Merrill has the same age as the Dalish Warden, then she must already have the majority in DA2.

The Warden can not have 13 years or 14 years or 15 years in DAO. And we see also clearly in DAO, that Merrill is presented both physically and psychologically as an adult.

I would say 18-19 in dao and 20-21 the first time we see her in DA2 :)

Tevinter Byzantium after Manzikert: a declinng empire with values of the past facing ennemies all around and in a stalemate with a power it cannot beat.
Qunari the Turks. The big invading force from beyond the known world who bring blackpowder and unmatched military coupled with the Qun. The Qun can be seen as Islam coupled with the Dajnisar system of slaves.
Orlais: France, clearly
Ferelden. as said above Free Anglo Saxon England
The Dalish could be seen as the old scots/picts/whatever pagan who would be shunned by a christian population.
Anderfels: Prussia
Nevarra: Spain
Rivain: Sicily/Mediteranean Islands
Free Marches: Northern Italy.

As for Merrill's age I think it is up to you to imagine. I perosnly imagine her to be 16-20 at the begining of the story. She is adult enought in her mind.

Unless they were George RR Martin. In which case, they'd let a 30 year old Hawke deflower a 14-year-old Merrill on their wedding night, and then kill her brother by dipping his head in a pot of molten gold.

I lol'd at this. One more exam to go and I can start on Storm of Swords: Blood and Gold :D

Finally I would say that the warden was 17. Ashalle, the friend of our late mother, said she was expecting our maturity before giving us an object that belonged to our mother.

Or maturity with elves isn't the same as that of humans.

Heh, helps alot. In Denmark maturity is 15~, in Spain it's 13~ and in USA it varies from 15~ to 21~ depending on the state.

Indeed, the dalish have longer lifespans than humans/city elves, so their age limits could easily be different (end of adolescence/start of maturity could be around mid-twenties, middle-age could be 70 or something etc.). Still, I agree that the dalish warden would be quite young.

Odd, now I find myself imagining a scene of Alistair asking F!Mahariel about her age, the latter replying "36" or something. Oh, the hilarity that would ensue :D
