I'm sorry for having to post again but BG1 is running quite slow for me (around 15-20 fps) when I have the widescreen mod on BG1. When I take it off however, it goes back to normal 30fps. The thing is BG2 still runs perfectly fine with or without the widescreen mod. There's also a case of these weird boxes when walking around where some parts of the area are blacked/dimmed out. They are not smooth and you can see squares and I'm assuming this is not how it is supposed to look like.

Gah, I really want to get into this game but it's just not letting me, I even went 30 mins and it just crashed on me! What is going on :/

I was going to refer you to the gibberlings3 website but it seems to be down at the time of posting. If it goes back online in the near future, I'd suggest having a look at the widescreen mod page & forums; they're more likely to provide the support you're after.

Off the top of my head however, what screen resolution are you trying to run BG at with the widescreen mod? I seem to recall reading that people have had trouble running at extremely high resolutions, so you may want to try lowering yours. IIRC, your current saves games wont work at alternate resolutions; you would be forced to start a new game if you do try changing your res.

Also, are you running BG with any other mods? And are the crashes you've experienced at random intervals or only on visiting certain areas etc?

I'm running BG1 on 1366x768 and that's about the only mod I'm using with it. I play BG2 with the same resolution and it seems to be working fine at a constant 30fps. The crashes have happened randomly, probably not the game's fault but with something that happened with the laptop at the time.

It's really hard to play the game on 640x480 and after seeing it play on 1366x768 it just looks that much better. Hopefully I can get this fixed, but if not I guess ill have to play it on the standard resolution.

Can't even play it on windowed mode because I can't even move the screen x)

Bg1 does not like wide-screen! BG2 uses a completely different engine but that can be good news for you. I suggest you download the 'easyTuTu' as that will solve your issue. Basically uses the bg2 engine to run your BG1 game... fixes a couple of minor bugs as well.

how come BG1 doesn't like widescreen? I was going to install Tutu but I wanted a vanilla first playthrough ya know, to experience the game how it was released over 10 years ago!

My bad Keyblade, I kinda assume that everyone's using tutu nowadays. As ussnorway said, BG1 & the widescreen mod just don't get on.

If you're dead set on that 'vanilla experience' then my advice would be to play though BG1 without tutu or widescreen. Sure, the low res & giant UI will be a little jarring to start with - especially if you've gotten used to BG2+widescreen - but you'll soon grow accustomed to it! It's still very playable like that in my opinion. Back in 98 we didn't have the liberty of such mods but we still had a blast!

That's fair enough Grimber :) I'll try my best to get used to the resolution! However, I'm hoping I can at least remove this one problem that still occurs on BG1 regardless if it modded or not. And that's the black squares or rectangles that protrude around the fog or character. I wasn't sure if this was normal so I looked at some gameplay footage on the net and it appears that the fog is smooth and circular. I've also tried playing the game on windowed mode but I can't even move the screen to other areas!

*sigh* hahaha, i guess I'll just have to install tutu. But does that mean the UI and menus change? I'm fine if the engine's different but I'm still hoping BG1 looks the same

Ok, I've installed easytutu but the right hand side and a bit of the right hand corner are just plain black. I can put my cursor over it but it will leave 'marks' of the cursor all over the place. Maybe the question is where DO I install tutu? Do I install it in the main BG1 folder or BG1Tutu folder... (I installed it on the main BG1 folder this time round)

The blackness is caused by your vid-card driver having issues with the direct-x... I need more information to correct this for you but I suggest you look at your diver version. DON'T JUST USE THE LATEST and assume you are covered. BG1 is 11+ years old and the new drivers offen don't cater for the older games.

There are two different tutu downloads 1 for people with TOB and the other for just bg2. Match the game patch to your tutu patch... eg. for ToB TUTU the patch is bg2tob_26498_eng.
As a guide this is my EasyTUTU Set up list.

Folders;
BG1 folder = E:\\Games\\Baldur's Gate
BG2 folder = E:\\Games\\BGII - SoA
TUTU setup folder = E:\\Temp
TUTU game folder = E:\\Games\\BaldursGateTutu

The order is;
A fresh install of BG_TOTSC_1 (Complete)
BG1TOSCGameTextUpdate11
BG2 (Complete)
BG2 ToB (Complete)
bg2tob_26498_eng
reboot system
Now install whatever mods you like but TutuGUIv18 is always last!
The TUTU forum is here. The TUTU read me is here. :wub:

Thanks Spjuv, I've managed to fix the problem with the fog. However, I'll once again explain a new problem I've encountered. I've installed the widescreen mod on BG1 which is now on Tutu. It's working completely fine but on the right where the character portrait is situated is missing. If I can get this working properly, I'll be on my way to actually playing this baby properly.

Here's an example.
