Do I want to google want an Eroge is?
If you haven't yet, an Eroge is basically a Japanese Visual Novel game ... eroge themselves, (to be very clear) tend to feature erotic and sometimes pornographic content ... but often fans will use the name to refer to any Visual Novel game which includes nudity and sex and don't typically reserve it for the more pornographic titles - as some people do. (though, there are certainly plenty of pornographic titles to choose from)
The only difference between these and the tamer, Bishojo games is the inclusion of sex and nudity. (thus, when you speak of an eroge you are always suggesting these two elements are extant in the game, no matter how tastefully they are applied, while Bishojo games, technically, needn't involve these elements)
If you haven't heard of or seen Visual Novel games before ... they are the equivalent of playing "choose your own adventure" manga, (japanese visual novels) on your computer ... including different conversation paths you can take with the other characters, which alter their relationships with you and, potentially, the direction and ending of the story. These story/games are told through a series of 2d images and are often voiced - though in Japanese so if you don't speak or read the language you'll be limited to those games translated into English ... of which there are still quite a few.
As with most anime, the titles range from very good, (Ever 17, Crescendo, Kana little sister, Yumi Miru Kusuri) to the very bad. (Water Closet, Slave Pagent, the first X-Change game)
In the states there tends to be a stigma surrounding these games, concocted by people who haven't played them, and - having only seen a few examples from the worst of the lot - will proclaim the entire genre as merely pornography. In truth, however, some of the greatest and most touching stories I've ever experienced, (Kana will always have a place as the only game to ever make me cry) have been told through this medium.
