... in DA games. Or rather, do you want more romance? I would say no. I find it distracting that everyone wants to jump into bed with me. This is also true in DA2... (ho ho ho)
Seriously, I think more time should be spent developing the characters in other ways and less on having a romance option with everyone in your party.
If you need to have such a variety of romance, then one suggestion might be to make it harder or less trivial to initiate romance, so it doesn't feel like you are such a mack daddy. Right now it feels like:
Merrill: its all so hard blah blah
Hawke: Its okay, I'm your best buddy lets hug
Merrill: I love you. Lets have sex.
And for the love of the Maker remove the big heart icon! It ruins all the fun of the chase...
The thing is. You have options to take relationships furthur or not. In one of my games (I think it was my female Hawke, Warrior playthrough), I didn't romance anyone. It was my second playthrough and I didn't want the "distraction", as you say.
I think Bioware did the romances decently, in my opinion. The romance grew over years of time together, but I always felt like there was something missing and I'm not sure what.

I watched that scene at the elven baths on kotaku yesterday, instantly ordered TW2 from amazon. It was obligatory.
I have to agree, they took the sex scene to a whole nother level.

What I would like to see is more romance, though. More of an acknowledgement that they are together. There is a little romance exclusive dialogue, but more dialogue in general would be good.

If your LI is able to move in with you in future titles how about they actually 'move in'. Like they bring some of their stuff, maybe some night they are fixing a great meal or they ask the PC to prepare a Ferelden specialty for them or something. Stuff that happens between those two characters that is an escape (for them) from the rest of the game. Maybe even a *gasp* (I can't believe I am going to say this) a DATE QUEST where you can have a special one on one scene with your LI and do something like make dinner together or take pleasant stroll and chat, or visit an art exhibition ... something.
The love/sex scene needs a bigger payoff. Some skin and stuff and some fan service for the people who want to see male skin too, let's not discriminate! The relationship needs a bigger payoff too! Like more dialogue, more intimate moments that aren't sex, and a date quest.

This conversation of yours is incredibly disturbing.

Does it need more sex - no. The origins scenes were uncomfortable, frankly. I did like the ME scenes, but the Garrus fade to black in ME2 was lovely too. I really very much enjoyed the Anders scene - it was sweet and intimate, but you didn't feel like a voyeur. He kissed her, she moved him to to bed, they lay down and kissed, fade to black. Perfect.

Yeah, the dialouge needed some work - in Act 3, with Anders, it was like, arrive at your house, one conversation about how Meredith was still making life impossible for mages, and that was it. The conversation felt forced, because they'd been living together three years, so it was a rather odd chat for them to suddenly have, and after that there was nothing I felt.

I'm shallow enough to admit that it got my interest too. I'm not one to deny titillating fanservice! those scenes only help to increase TW2's publicity. it's such a cliche but sex sells. it's true

The developers do only show what you can read in all the novels of Sapkowski. I wouldn't say that "sex sells" is the primary thought behind it.

I love reading how people rushed to buy the game once they saw videos/images of the sex in TW2.

That's because it isn't about 'porn' or that kind of gratification. It's the fact that CDProjekt Red actually had the courage to show some skin, something videogames are irrationally afraid to do. Dio you think the people watching Terminator should have 'just went and watched some porn' because there was a 5 min or so love scene with sarah connor and reese?
I didn't buy Red Dead just because it had that sex scene with the mexican revolutionary and 'not laura' but I definitely appreciated that it was there.
