While patiently waiting for the next patch of the game (to play my canon playthrough, no less) , and while not being able to stop thinking about Dragon age and Mass Effect, I decided to organize my thoughts a bit. I soon found myself thinking solely of potentional characters-companion for the possible expansion or DA3 and after.  So, I decided to open a thread were people can post their fresh ideas, and where we hardcore fans can have a civilised discussion about character archetypes. I will start by posting my original ideas (comments welcome!).

Companion 1) A Kal-Sharok traditionalist. He generaly supports the caste system and is disciplined. Could also be extremely battle-hardened (mainly fighting darkspawn or the main 'enemy' of the game), to the point of being deeply scarred (possibly his lover and all his family were slain to add to the drama).

Companion 2) An exiled magister. Now old and stripped of his political power, he is seeking a new purpose. He finds one in teaching the protagonist (Possible lessons : Leadership, Magic, protagonist's special awesome abilities...etc). Wise and calm

Companion 3) A circle mage strongly supporting a specific fraternity (An isolasionist or a lucrosian since we have seen too much of the currently known others). Cunning and devious.

Companion 4) A shadow(!)-thief. It's about time we met someone who represents the abilities the shadows have! Carefree, avoiding to give insight about his past (fearfull of a betrayal), hideously cynnical , cleptomaniac and part of a huge criminal network.

Companion 5) A kossuth (I hope I got that rightImage IPB) who is neither a Qunari nor a Tal-Vasoth, much like Maraas> Retaining the coolnes of Qunari responses (it just is style) while being less predictable.

Companion 6) An Alammari barbarian. His tribe is slaughtered for some reason and he has grown somewhat attached to you. A mix beetwen the classic D&D barbarian and Minsc.

Companion 7) A strong noble (Anderfels, Tevinter or Orlais). Her father wanted a son and now her mother is, for some reason dead. Raised with great expectetaions, she is aggressive, demanding, headstrong, driven, cultured and knowledgable about almost everything. The only thing she has ever done is following her father's will (pursuing political power) leaving no room for everything else making her extremely sharp to cover her lack of experience in social matters.

Companion 8) An elf warrior who has rejected his/her people. He/She believes in all races being equal, and dislikes the Dalish. Striving to blend in to human societies, he/she joined the templars much to the dislike of others from his/her new order. However, his dedication has earned him/her the rank of Kinght-Captain.

Anxiously awaiting your opinion!

EDIT : Major fail! I wrote Kal-Hirol instead of Kal-Sharok...

This.
I'd also like to see a drifter like companion known simply as the Passenger

That's in fact, an amazing idea! Something Legion-like would certainly fill the bill.

I had an idea for two characters for DA3

1) A tevinter magister's apprentice who works with the PC to kill his master. He carries around a shovel, from all the grave digging he does for the magister. (Why use a shovel when he has magic? so he doesn't look like a mage.). Anyway he has a really brutal and twisted sense of humor, custom has made it in him a thing of easiness. Also he's a maleficarum, so that might create some tension between him and this next character.

2) A descendant of Andraste's blood. A rebel against what he(or possibly she) see's is a chantry full of decadence and preachers that use his/her Ancestor's name in vain. Honorable but willing to do whatever it takes to reform the chantry. He/She has not taken chantry vows because he/she views it as incest. he/she still supports the Templars, but wants to make templars and mages brothers in arms. One being the sword, the other one a shield.

I second this. A darkspawn companion might actually be cool.

We saw Shale in one of those ending slides, so maybe Shale. But apparently they don't want to bring characters back without changing them in some significant way personality wise so it's not just more of the same and all fanservice-y. So I'm thinking-- Shale abomination. Possible? Wilhelm's journal alluded to the desire demon possibly affecting Shale, possibly leading to Wilhelm's demise.

Human Shale could also work

The less we know about the darkspawn, the better imo. There is something to be said about having mystery.

We should definitely have a qunari companion, but it should be a woman. I'm thinking a mage, because then, despite her gender in the segregated qunari culture, she would have to be trained to fight. Or whatever qunari mages do.

There also should be some random character that we overlooked in Origins/DA2. Like Merrill was a forgettable character in Origins and suddenly came back.

An angry druid seeking revenge on kirkwall for the battle of the squealing plains.

Cassandra of course.....and her twin sister with white hair Cossandra.

A sloth demon that just sits in camp all the time drinking beer and eating chips.
