My favorite race is the Rachni. Not only do they play a huge part in ME lore/past and possible ME future they are not a cliche "bugs that must die!" race. They are one of the few sentient non-humanoid species in the series so far and they are aesthetically beautiful in my opinion compared to other "monster insect" species in other media. Krogans and Turians. I like that they are different sides of the same coin.

if you like the reapers because of their philisophical value then you should check into the Cult of Cthulhu. the reapers are basically based around Cthulhu, which is an actual god in an actual religion. seriously read up on it, that stuff will blow your mind and have you thinking "what if?"

Incorrect. Cthulhu is a fictional character created by H.P. Lovecraft, circa 1927, I believe.

Geth and the quarians, because I enjoy their struggle for peace and their origins are a little fascinating to me.

Favourites:
Hanar - I like their general demeanour and haughtiness, the "floating" appearance, their method of communication, and the fact they are quite unique compared to most others.

Second favourite:
Rachni - The communication method and interpretation; vibration as sound and colour.

actually H.P.L. actually accredits his work to a book that he cannot remember ( the necronomicon ) which explains the gruesome gods of horrible dimensions. the Necronomicon was written before the bible during the time of ancient babylonian myths by.... someone i cant remember actually but his book was called "Al Azif" and was mass produced and eventually burned by catholics. and yes it is an actual religion now. go to cultofcthulhu.net <-- it was recognized by the american government a few years ago.

for me it is the Asari...hands down.

The martial culture that resembles the Edo period with a dash of Heian and Kamakura periods and a hint of the idealized model of chevalier. maybe rome

The single sex monogendered species is a GOLDMINE of anthropological study!!  what defines Masculinity and feminity..are they one in the same. with but one gender (meaning none) does that mean there are no defined gender roles (as far as what we (humans irl) define as gender roles)? does this mean that roles in asari society are determined based exclusively on  the relationships in a particular community? what defines asari family groups?
what are their traditions and customs? do they differ from community to community? is there more than ONE culture for the asari, rather does each asari city-state practice/observe its own customs and belief system yet still recognizes the accepted ASARI template? or is the asari cultural ideals unified?
What determines what is/is not INTERESTING when determining a mate? how are courtship rituals initiated and carried out? do they have a bride price/dowry system?

The Asari history...pre-space flight....fascinates me....the vast amounts of lore that the writers can create here would be awesome! Specially in their "world" views which make me think of jodo shinshu for some reason. Did they come about due to constant strife or as the sole result of the wonderment with space beyond...err...exploration and desire to acquire knowledge of the unknown?

and the asari are sexy no-holds barred heart breakers and name takers...sexy sexy

I am partial to the Geth since they are a good conduit of expressing what is "wrong" about humanity. Also, they are a race trying to make their own destiny without interfering with others, well except for the heretics, and that one thing with the Quarians. And the fact that they presumably could pump out ships and soldiers faster than any of the other organic races is a nice bonus.

1: Turians - Garrus is my favorite squaddie, Saren was a badass (who deserved more screen time, needed more firefights with him. *shrug*)
2: "Mainstream" Geth - Legion definitely changed my mind about the geth. Plus cleaning up the Quarian's planet for them to return to is a nice gesture, though unsure if this is factual.
--
Indifferent about the rest, though I like individuals from all species.....except the Volus..someone needs to give them the ole' galactic boot to the face >:o

I have to say first, are the AI. Geth, EDI, etc. That was what first got me interested in playing the game when I first started. I never seen anything quite like the Geth when I first started playing. Compare them to robots like, the Terminators. The Geth are far more... well... personable. It is easier to relate to them. They look nothing like us, but share some of our problems (ie war, 'heresy,' etc) and have something of our nobility too (regret, struggle to reconcile our actions with ethics etc).

Also, anyone else see the parallels between EDI and the Reapers? Both sentient ships...

Oh. And the asari. I'm a man. Straight man. Is a sucker for hot blue chicks with guns and magical powers.

The other races are cool too. But I tend to like the characters more than the concepts.
