um... 4,5,6,9,11
what bothered me the most is that most "choices" only have 1 outcome, resulting in 0 re-playability.

yeah the one thing that upsets me more than anything is lailaw lying us half the time about aspects of the game and inadvertantly thinking we are idiots for thinking that the reused maps was a bigger deal than he thought. Or that origins was too complicated for us.

Again, Amen.

It's funny, I've been told over and over again, that I'd love Song of Fire and Ice. Friends from all spheres of my life have been bugging me to give it a try. I bought all the books out at the time on their recommendation. Haven't even got through Game of Thrones. I just can't. I could give all my reasons, but they just boil down to the style in which Martin writes isn't my cup of tea. I don't think he's a bad writer or he eats babies for breakfaast, I just am not crazy about this specific set of prose from him.

I never understand why people it has to be so vicious about something they don't like. Criticism is well and good, and a smart author/creator etc listens to his or her critics to make his/her art better. All this, is the internet version of a Prairie Fire (which is cinnamon shnaps, everclear and tobasco sauce). Might clear the sinuses but does your stomach, and the rest of you little good, along making you toxic to everyone else.

With that post, I think we're beginning to border on the ridiculous now (though arguably, this entire thread is).

It is perfectly acceptable for a game to be placed on a pedestal as an example of what an excellent, well made game is, if it is recieved as such by a vast majority of people who play it and reviewers.  As it is reasonable to do so with any exceptional consumer product.

I certainly agree though, it is ridiculous and horrible that you should  be called a heretic (or anything negative) for liking DA2.

That said, people are perfectly entitled to make comparisons between the two games (after all, Dragon Age 2 is a sequel to the first game - if Bioware didn't want direct comparisons, they shouldn't have named it Dragon Age 2 and insisted that it was going to be so similar to the first).

The Fade. I find it one of the most boring and unimaginative dreamlands I've ever seen in a video game.

Look at Silent Hill, Psychonauts, and the videos for the upcoming Alice in Wonderland. Now contrast a realm that is exactly like reality only with yellow mist and barrel puzzles.

How is a realm that's the supposed seat of emotion and imagination one of the most drab places I've been in a video game?

Well, most of my stuff is spoilers that makes me sad. So I can't say them here. :P

Other than that, what I hate most is that everybody pukes on this game and the writers without seeing its good characteristics.

Well, I was being sarcastic.

As for putting something on a pedestal because the majority loves it, many more folks prefer Sarah Brightman's caterwauling of operatic arias to Maria Callas singing them as they were written. Won't stop me from pointing out that Sarah Brightman is anything but an opera singer. Majority and reviews be damned. (Not literally, of course)

@ Persephone:

Image IPB Hehe, well there is always going to be some level of subjectiveness contained within the evaluation of virtually any consumer product. No matter how good the product is, or how far the competition lags behind, there will always be people who don't like it. And vice versa for poor products. I should note that in saying that, I'm not implicitly placing DA2 into either of those baskets.

Just making the point that when a vast (emphasis on vast) majority agree that a product is of outstanding quality within its context (for what it is and what it is meant to do, as well as possibly what it is competing with), that's as close as you're going to get to being 'definatively' great quality, and 'pedestal worthy'.  Unless of course the product can be directly evaluated in a statistical sense (for example, testing the durability of certain materials designed for construction).

It would be nice though if everybody could just accept the opinions of others, and have rational discussions about the pros and cons of the game in as objective a fashion as is possible, instead of insulting one another. Image IPB

I feel a little sorry for you and others who love the game - you've been treated to an unfairly harsh time here.

Only issue was the recycled areas and the crappy inventory system.

Same here, I'm actually ok with everything else, since I tend to look at games on their own merits.

Possibly due to the fact that I don't obsess over games, and move on - there's tons of things to play.

1. Recycled Environments/Instances/Beastiary

2. Templars employing mystical ninja’s doing backfkips in platemail. And wondering why it was raining men and women every time I took a few steps.

3. I’d rather play Resident Evil for my Zombie Fix. And the Fish people....really?

4. Limited Dialogue Options/Interactions w/Companions

5. Lack of Race/Character Customization

6. Too much Mass Effect in my Dragon Age

7. Inability to upgrade Companion Armors

8. Being given a quest to return some random guys pair of pants

9. Majority of all drops were vendored.

10. Crafting Marginalized

11. Poorly Executed Story

12. Not finding the “Awesome Button” but the Uninstall button came close to it.

13. Little to no replay value

14. No Consequences for Actions

15. Import Bugs

16. Friendship Bug

17. DLC’s at release - Blatant Money Grab

18. DA2 Item Pack

19. DA2 being put on a Bloody Pedesestal it definitely does not deserve. Leading to being condemned for heresy if you point out its many, many flaws.

20. Tedious Gameplay

21. Just another Mediocre title that was best left on the shelf.

22. Dual Wield Restricted to Rogues.

23. Not enough Active abilities.

24. Companions Locked into Roles not defined by the player.

25. Having more fun making Motivational Posters then I did playing the game.

26. Spending 5 minutes to write this list. And another 5 fixing the formatting

Being served a one-dimensional, shallow, lovelessly put-together fast-food dish in one of my favourite AAA restaurants. Took me by surprise and didn't go down well. No "awesome" flavour for me, please.

But hey, there are other restaurants out there.
What upsets me is that I can't make my brain throw up to forget.

That I couldn't be an arcane warrior. Most other points were an improvement over Origins so I tend not to complain about this game.

What upset me the most was the game ending just as I was really getting into it (but most good games have this problem).

Also, the community within the DA2 forums upsets me a great deal and while the complaints were tolerable pre-release, I can't easily avoid the endless facepalm-worthy thread titles/posts that crop up around here. I've taken
refuge on the ME forums until things settle down (they appear to be settling a little bit lately and it's only a matter of time as we approach ME3 release before the ME forums suffer the same fate as the DA2 forums). I do miss a lot of the folks who were following the game while it was in development but a lot of the newcomers and the vocal others have really turned me off from reading/communicating here.

What's your biggest gripe?

1. Being told what a great game it was going to be and getting this tur...key instead.

2. Being told this was the game you asked for.

3. Being told you were stupid for not liking this "awesome" game.

4. The inability to converse with your companions any time or place you wanted.

5. The way 90% of the "loot" was useless.

6.  That cave.

7.  Still running XP? No hi-res graphics for you!

8.  Your You're the Champion of Kirkwall and a "noble" ... and you have 15 gold to your name and you're everyone's errand boy.

9. What choices did you make? Whom did you side with? Surprise, it doesn't matter! You still have to kill everyone.

10. Except for the ones you want to ...

11. The story had potential, but it too got stupidifi ... "streamlined".

12. You got suckered into pre-ordering it.

13. You're still playing it hoping it will get better.

14. etc., etc.

There are so many it's hard to pick the most egregious.
