OK.  While a fantasy RPG fan (loved Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment, Neverwinter Nights, DA:O, etc.), not really a big DA fan...didn't care for it AT ALL the first time I started it.  Shelved it for 6 months and played ME/ME2 instead. (which I love both!! <3)
Gave DA:O another try...and I really, REALLY liked it. <3  Different class this time.  GREAT game...soooo much dialogue!!
Then...I get....this.  :(
NO item descriptions.
NO travel time.
NO ambushes in transit.
GREATLY reduced interactions between squadmates.
NO armor customizations for squaddies.

I feel overall like BW assumed I should be riding the Short Bus and I needed hand-holding.
Sweetie, I'm 42 years old.  I was born before there were even FOOTPRINTS on the freaking MOON.  OK??
I've been around the Gaming  Block "once or twice".
Why assume I have no clue?!?

FWIW, I had a few ambushes between transits; maybe planned or not, but they were there. And I am older (wish you had skipped the whole Moon thing),

Well, maybe I just haven't traversed the proper paths...
edit:: respect poster who wishes I had skipped "Moon" comparison.  Duly noted, and discarded.)

The only thing that upsets me now is the little re-playability.
I can play Origins over and over cause you can make all sorts of different characters.
but for the linear storyline of DA2 it's much harder for me to play it as much :<.
I just wish there WAS a new game+ option like Mass Effect.

My biggest gripe was the combat animations. I just couldn't get into being a warrior because the combat seemed way off. Your enemies fight like they did Origins(except the rogues) but you fight like your on a day long speed binge. It just didn't fit to me.
Now I've played all the God of wars and Devil may cry type games but Dragon Age was a refreshing break from that kind of hack and slash stuff. I dont know..it felt more realistic and gritty where as Dragon Age 2 feels like a bad ninety nine nights rip off...and a bad one at that.
And what were they smoking when they thought using the same cave with the same layout over and over was a good idea? Tried to play the game a second time and by act 2 I was done. Cave fatigue set in. One lousy playthrough where Origins got at least 20 out of me. Rant over.

Yeah my second playthrough was almost identical to my first, despite my attempts to play as differently as possible.

My first playthrough was a mage who was 'nice' to everybody (occasionally sarcastic). My second was a rogue (opposite gender) who was 'mean' to everybody (again, sometimes sarcastic). The first supported mages, the second templars.

Nothing was really different at all. The only quest in the entire game that changed was 'The Last Straw' - the rest were all identical, with perhaps a very slightly different battle at the end.

Playing a different class had no allure as I often spend equal amounts of time controlling all of my characters, which always includes one of each class anyway (this is the same in Origins).

More or less left me quite bored with the second playthrough.

In the ending cinematic, a single line of dialogue was different to my first playthrough (and this was only for my final decision to support Templars instead of Mages - the rest of the choices were not even mentioned).

Doubt I'll do a third, unless there is some very 'awesome' DLC that takes place during the campaign.

I can't see me doing a second PT of DA2.
With DA:O, I totally can.
(For one thing, I found the fem!Hawke voice in DA2 totally boring, boring, boring!)

Laidlaw thought no one would notice cause of all the awesome content they worked on/added over level design.

Turned out all that awesome content was 80% fed ex quests.

The story's all set-up and no delivery.

It's like this joke, right. There's this fisherman, he has a miserable life. His wife nags him, he's poorer than anyone else in the county, and he's got a persistent cough. His only joy in life is fishing.

One morning he casts his line out and lo and behold he hooks a beautiful mermaid. And in exchange for her freedom she's willing to grant him exactly one wish.

The fisherman thinks about it for and finally says, "H--

Wait for Fisherman's Story Part 2 for the conclusion!

Yep but you forgot that they push really hard that you are supposed to hate fishing and fishermen.

I'm playing a mage and the push for me to side with the Templars is really heavy handed. There are passing mentions about how bad the templars are, alusions to rape, and abuse. But the Mages are all animals who need to be surpressed is just annoying. Sebastian, Cullen, Meredith making comments all the time,  and every other mage a blood mage, abomination or just a few animal crackers shy of a full box. Oh and I am really supposed to sleep with Anders apparently ( I once started a convo with him intending to be friendly and got two heart icons and a broken heart one WTF?), I guess to make his little action  of <spoiler> hit you in the stomach with the a sucker punch to our hearts. Like using a bundle of dynamite to kill a fly.  Not heavy handed at all....:pinched:=]

It doesn't even matter.

The mage/templar argument is forgotten once that big event happens anyway. It's no longer about if you agree with the mages or the templars, now it's all about KILL MURDER DEATH!

There's more organic and character driven ways to have the mage/templar argument break out in all out war. In DA2 someone just explodes and then the whole argument about freedoms are forgotten as you race through boss fights.

I like where this is going, but your story about the fisherman needed to be more contrived in order for it to fit in better with the analogy. <3

He still thinks that.  When confronted, post release, about all the criticism leveled at the dumbed down  nature of the game, his answer was:  well, turn up the difficulty and it won't seem so dumbed down".

He just  doesn't get it.  And worse, he STILL sees us as simpletons who judge a game soley on how  many health points  an enemy has.  <gag>

1) Lack of real change over the 7 year timespan.

2) Too many quests at one time, it feels like a chore at times.

3) The over saturated nature of the marketing campaign and DLC items that lack value throughout the game.

4) Disappointing cliffhanger.

That is it.

Same here.

And I have to add 1 more: a lot of times Hawke looked like an idiot, and I was not given an option to fix it. For example when you let Petrice get away. I felt like a moron and I don't like that.

I actually was bugged the most by having to involve myself in the conflict between the Chantry and the Mages. I thought both sides pretty much blew and I wanted nothing to do with them; I hated having to take a side. How about C. I move back to Lothering and kill the next Chantry/Mage rep that knocks on my door.

My feelings on the conflict were summed up by someone's commentary on the recent royal wedding: I felt like I was watching a sport I knew nothing about played by two teams that I could care less about. Unlike the royal wedding, in DA2, I couldn't change the channel. blah.
