Hey People,

If someone could give me some help regarding this, I would really really appreciate it.  Around 3 months ago, I got a new PC, upgrading from my laptop, a HP Pavilion dv5-1010us:

Windows 7 64bit
4gb RAM
Intel Core Duo @ 2.00 gHz
nVidia 9200M GPU

Prior to this upgrade, I had been playing a game of KotOR2, but after the upgrade, which was rather sizeable, I immediately jumped on the new games that I had been missing out on that a lot of my friends were playing(Bad Company 2, Mass Effect 2, etc...)  Eventually, however, I felt the call of KotOR, and I wanted to reinstall and play those games again.  I no longer have my old laptop, as it was more or less broken(the screen stopped working).

However, KotOR or KotOR 2 will not launch.  This is what happens when I try to launch:  I get the Ebon Hawk loading screen in the center, then it stays there, stays there, and disappears, and the game closes.  I cannot even get to the LucasArts intro movies, or even the main menu.

My current system is this:

Windows 7 64-bit
12gb RAM
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T @ 3.2gHz
ATI HD Radeon 5870

This is what I have done to try to get the game to work:
1) I've run swkotor.exe and the launcher in XP service pack 2 compatibility mode
2) I've installed KotOR by launching setup.exe as an admin and in compatibility mode
3) I tried to update Direct X, but was told I did not need to by the updater
4) My video card drivers are not up to date, but are outddated only by 6 months or so(the latest driver causes other programs to run with black bars on the sides of the screen)
5) I've replaced Mss32.dll with the fixed version
6) I've launched Kotor without sound
7) I've launched kotor without movies - I also tried to delete the startup movies as well
8) I thought that it could be my hex core processor messing it up, so I used Imagecfg.exe to set affinity on the system to 1 core.
9) Apparently there was a securom glitch, and that was causing problems on startup.  I got a cracked NoCD .exe after reading this forum post(No, I am not a pirate, I did this at the suggestion of that moderator):  http://swforums.biow...345531&forum=80

NONE of these worked for me.  I'm exhausted and depressed that every single time I tried something new, it got my hopes up, only for it to come crashing down when I got this Ebon Hawk picture in the middle of my desktop only for it to disappear after lingering for 30 seconds or so.

I would really appreciate help - I'm honestly sick and tired of this.

Best,
stemper.

swkotor does not run on a 64bit system... You have to install/ run it as a 32bit.

I would love to believe that, except I've gotten it to run on both vista and win7 64-bit, on my previous computer. I gave the system specifications of that machine in the post above.

I cannot get the game to run on my new computer.

In case anyone was interested - I ended up fixing this problem. I updated my GPU's drivers to Catalyst 11.4, and although the driver itself does not function correctly, both kotor and kotor 2 run without any of the "fixes" that I found online and attempted to employ. I did not have an issue with SecureRom, though a few of the "fixes" did improve gameplay performance:

-Setting affinity to run on 1 Core made the game more stable
-Disabling visual themes and desktop composition dramatically improved the game's graphics.

Kotor 1 occasionally "alt-tabs" to desktop when movies play, but once you click on the icon in the taskbar, it will come back up and the movie will replay. Kotor 2 does not seem to have this problem.

Best of luck to anyone having trouble getting kotor to run - I've had success on a very new system, and if you need a hand, I'd be happy to help you with any of the fixes I've tried here.

You asked that question on the wrong developers' / producers' web site, since it was a LucasArts game developed by Obsidian:

There's almost no one around here any more.  I wouldn't know how to hold a real raw newbie's hand like you want.  AFAIK, the LucasArts forums have far more participation these days.

How do I do that? I have Windows 7 Home Premium.
