While I am not in agreement with you, I want to honestly say that I am happy you enjoyed it.

There were some bright moments for me too. They were just too few in a game that ended too abruptly.

Don't let the DA controversy spoil your enjoyment. In fact I would say run from the forums and never look back.

Good to see that the game connected with at least some people.

Denying my cleverness only makes you look more persephonic. Did Gaider reply to your love letter yet?

How are you not banned yet?

Kirkwall definitely was a quest hub.

Funny thing is... I might have totally disagreed for you if I had not played the PC demo.

The streamlined combat, while hyperbolized with the circus-show basic attack combos, is actually IMMENSELY better on the PC, feels fresh and fast, but still strategized and tricky in the manner of DA:O. I find myself quite enjoying it. :) The dialogue wheel never really bothered me to begin with, and the personality that your hawke can develop is interesting.

My only complaint is that I love a game that can be exceptionally repetitive and lacking in structure. The story is great, but a lot of it doesn't seem to have any true direction or progression. And recycled environments are a no-no.

I too was blown away, but over-the-top stuff gets old too fast. 3 playtroughs by me and I have never touched the game since.

I can't say that I love DA2. I do like to play it and played it now the third time.
I think the characters are what I like most on DA2, the party banter, the romance options and the companion quests. But when I create a new character it is merely to see how Anders or Fenris would react to my mage in a rival romance or friendship romance or if I play a non mage class like rogue or fighter.
I was happy to see more of the qunaris - I would really like to see Par Vollen in a game or DLC too.
And I am quite glad that the quests are rather short, because I hated in DA:O the long quest in the fade and the deep roads (this is something I definetly agree with Anders: I hate the deep roads - rather unfortunately for a warden though).
In comparison to DA:O, DA2 seems to be more streamlined and reduced. DA:O felt to be richer in both character dialogue, quests, story (with all the different background storys and how the world react to you) and atmosphere. This is only my feeling - for others maybe DA:O was to much of it.
I think it is clear that people have different feelings on both games because they are quite different and people have different priorities and different likings. For example, I don't like the reuse of maps too, but this not a heavy issue for me (but I find it a little embarassing for Bioware) because the graphics are not my highest priority. Same goes for the combat - but the interaction of the characters and the story is what makes me to play this game more than once. And I think there are some great characters in DA2.

OP: Now that you mention tabletop RPG I have to admit: In many ways, DA2 has a classic pen & paper vibe. The lack of an overarching storyline driving the narrative foward reminds me of how our GM every weekend would throw random quests at our band of merry misfists waiting for loot and XP.

I will second that I found it a vastly entertaining game. Merely, not as much as Origins, and it felt incomplete.

AudioEpics. Always a pleasure to read such a well-written, freely given and honest opinion. I agree with everything you said, loved the game myself, primarily for the narrative and characters. Also for brave decisions, like doing away with a heroic quest story; for making the love interests available to both PC genders; and so on. I’m aware of the flaws, and I certainly wouldn’t complain if there were more varied and more complex levels, more dialogs, and, well... if there was simply more! But I enjoyed it anyway.

That said, there are, in truth, very few rational arguments to help defend the game against accusations of “low quality'”. My fiancee, if he were to post here, would be a typical hater, I think, and when we argue about DA2, he always wins. The only thing I get to keep is the good old de gustibus non disputandum. :)

To the OP, I am genuinely happy for you that you loved it. It's great to find a game you can enjoy like that. :)
I just wish I could feel as you do. But I just can't. :P

Sounds like another individual who didn't understand the mechanics of DAO enough to make combat better.

Sounds like someone who like the unbalanced mess of DA:O.

Though I don't agree Kirkwall didn't feel so special I enjoyed the game but Kirkwall wasn't as great as it should have been.

This would be make Kirkwall more immserive and believable

or
Just gorgeous

That would be awesome. However, you have to understand that you can't have everything. Bioware tends to focus on story and companions, no matter your opinion on how well they handle that, and so things like graphics and intricate background NPCs tend to fall to the wayside. Under EA, Bioware may have quite a budget, but they have to be able to make back what the game cost plus quite a bit more for the investment to be worthwhile.

Witcher is about story don't see what your driving at. CDProjekt budgets is 8 million dollars or 21823994.93 Polish Zloty just saying budget is not the issue.

Can't find Dragon Age Origins, Awakening DA2 or ME2 though. Just guesses saying that it was ME2 was somewhere around 25 million or DAO was more. Either way it's more then 8 million.

You are forgetting companions. Companions, group combat balance, class balance, companion dialogue...All these things cost quite a bit of money. Budget and priorities are the exact issues, unless you think the people at Bioware are just not able to do those things?

I pretty much feel the way you do (even the bad things about da2)!  don't worry if some people hate on your opinion.
