Jane Austin (Sic!) witty? Ummm no

Um, yes. She is world famous for writing witty characters. (Elizabeth Bennet, for example)

That she is famous does not mean everyone needs to agree with you. I do not find Jane Austen witty as well, however you may not found other writers I like witty as well. That is how the world works. But If you want anyone take you seriously at not harrasing people about they opinion od DA2, than you should not harass them for their opinion of (fro example) Jane Austin - which is what aou are doing now. I agree with you on DA2 matter but now you are doing the same thing as those DA2 haters you are criticising. jane Austin is not the only famous writer on the world you know.

Oh, I know that not everyone has to agree with me. I'm fine with people liking or disliking Miss Austen's writing. And I also know that Jane Austen isn't the only famous writer in the world. (To cite the example used before, I do love Dante myself. His "Inferno" is a masterpiece)

It certainly is, but I would found much younger writers as a good example as well - however this is not the time for reading debate. All I was pointing was the fact that what you written sounded pretty agressive - maybe it would be nice to try to write a little more clearly next time. Of course, it is not easy to let sound a brief comment as clearly as the long writing, but it is at least worth trying - and not only on your side of course :-) Also the fact that someone is famous doesn't really mean he or she is a great person - there are sadly many examples in every area of human doing. But that is also entirely different debate :-)

You are not alone OP. I'm on my 9 play throe and I love the game. I have always hated playing mage in other games, DA 2 is the first game I really enjoyed being a magical guy=). I can even play as a female and that is something I usually don't do. I love the game and the fighting in it. Most of my friends say the same, so here we have a loving DA 2 group^^. Keep playing and enjoying the game for many more hours. It's worth it=D

Lovely post. We really should get this thread back on topic.

WOW, 9 playthroughs. I just finished my sixth and am waiting for Patch 1.03 before I start Nr. 7. In the meantime I'll play some more DAO and rent The Witcher 2.

Yeah, I'm on my 9 round, but I'm waiting for the next patch before I continue. I want to ****** off Anders and having him turn Templar in the end^^. I play ME and ME 2 in the meantime and waiting for my copy of Witcher 2. I got Darkspore yesterday, so I guess I will install that and play some. That is on Pc, on my console is it RDR and Infamous=).
Thanks for your kind words.

I'd like to see a combination of both teams. Mike Laidlaw wouldn't be my first choice for lead designer, but I think that with more time and resources to work with, he'd do just fine. (I hope so, anyway)

This will be the first time I agree with you :wizard:. The problem with the dA team it's not there writers, it's there LD(Mike) and EA.

one thing I didn't like were the massive gaps in time. I would've been happy if Varric had told Cassandra "I'll tell you the most important parts about Hawke". That way, it implies that Hawke didn't just sit with his thumb up his ass for 3 years until the Qunari got pissed and then another 3 years until Meredith went bat**** insane.

However, I just choose to imagine that Varric says that. In fact, I found a youtube clip of cut dialogue that had Cassandra addressing the very same issue. Gaps in time.

This sadly happens when a rpg is rushed. Gaider himself stated he did not enjoy the short time he had to writer the game. EA needs to relise this fast and not make this same mistaker again. You can't rush a rpg like you can with a shooter.

David Gaider gives me hope. He doesn't want to let us down. If EA recognized that you can't rush games and actually gave Bioware time to perfect the game, then I wouldn't have such an issue with them. I'd still hate them, but at least they'd have given Bioware what they need.

You can't rush art.

Indeed. He did mention that they are taking their time with story-related DLCs, so that gives me hope. (I want LOTSB quality at the very least!)

yup. which means that whenever I get the money (which might even be months from now) I'll gladly download those item packs. I swore to not download them until I heard about story DLC, and hearing from D. Gaider that they're taking their time makes me happy.

Well, really the only reason I'm downloading the item pack is because of naked woman with staff up her butt. Like I said on page 2, I'm vulgar. And 5 bucks for all three isn't that bad considering it's 40 or so items I believe. Doesn't mean I'll shell out money for all the item packs they make.

I think EA may actually have realized that Bioware needs time to make something great, otherwise we'd have been given a release date on some story DLC I bet.

They've seen the light! Huzzah! Huzzah!

edit: at the very least I can sell the useless Hawke items for more money to buy stuff my party can use. Spending 20 sovereigns for an amulet when I only have 34 is kinda obscene.

I think they should just give Mike resources to work on JE2, it's what he wants. Let him do that and combine the best of the ME team and the DA team(for the love of god leave Walters out of DA) to work on future.

See, I can be a sensible person, but I do feel EA is not that dumb, if bioware had told them we can't make a quality game in this timeframe the EA would have given them extra time, they're a business in it to make money, they wouldn't want to invest so much money into one game only to have the sales flop in the sand like a dying fish. I do think the dev team is more to blame than EA, not to mention if they didn't advertise the hell out of the whole rise to power by ANY means necessary, when in fact it was really only one mean necessary.

I agree. I don't think it was a case of incompetence, but that of a miss-match. I'm one of those people who actually liked JE, even though action RPGs are not my cup of tea, usually.

I believe he does love what he envisions. His visions are actually quite good, unfortunately, they don't fit in a RPG all that well. Watching his enthusiasm, and reading/hearing his ideas, I think he would make a great LD for JE2. I'd buy that, fer sure.

AudioEpic I didn't know there was a table top game for DA. Thanks for the info. As for RDR, yeah, that is a good game. I really have to go through my stack soon - and then forage around the modding sites. I'm sure I'll find some good matches for my other games there, and will have fun re-playing them.

Of course, Morrowind and NWN1 (for the sole purpose of HotU) never was uninstalled, ever. They follow me from system to system. What can I say? I love those two games. I have another one that was never uninstalled since its installation on release day, but I think, for the sake of peace, I shouldn't name it here ;)

*Waits to be pointed and laughed at or worse for liking JE*

I don't think EA will rush DA3 for one big reason, DA2 did not sell that well. DAO has sold ovver 4 mil units, both ME games have osld over two mil, DA2 has only sold over 1 mil....

It also looks like they learned this with dlc which they are taking there time. Should they have done that with DA2? Fore sure, but all Bioware and EA can do is move on and not make the same mistake again. We will know the quality of DA3 when it's announced. If it's announced any time in 2011, I will be skeptical, if it's announced after 2011, then I will be less worried.

Oh, thanks. I just tried to google "DA table top" and got some very odd results. I forgot to set it to English, and in my language the word "da" has a meaning (meaning 'here', or 'there'). I got a mess of site-listings because of that :D

I might warn you in advance, however, that he mechanics of the PnP game leave a lot to be desired.  I realize they probably wanted a simple system to encourage those people who might make the leap from crpg to pnp rpg, but it could have been done a lot better.

If I were to suggest a good "bridging game" between the two, I might point one toward the new edition of "Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying", which combines elements of board games like "Arkham Horror" with classical rpg mechanics.

Yes, I do AudioEpics, and thanks again. Much better ;)

I'll keep that in mind Elearon, thanks for the heads up. It's been a while since I played PnP, so I'll be sure to check both. Arkham Horror is a great game, imo.

The love that you feel seem to just be that you normally play RPG and now you got a taste of an Action RPG, granted, you can find much better Action games than Dragon Age 2 out there. Why is why Dragon Age 2 kind of fails even on the awesome combat. It tries to be, but since the core of it was not an action rpg, it translated badly. When watching trailers for Dungeon Siege 3, it looks like the Bioware people had done the same and noticed that they want that kind of combat, but the engine didnt rewrite itself good enough for the time frame or similar.

That is the feel I get :) Then again, I first disliked the game, then I started to really enjoy it, and then again when I had played it through and was gonna give it another go, I got half way through act one, uninstalled and went and bought Oblivion instead (which, even though hard to get in to where they push all on me at once and me got scared, horrible combat, dont know where to go or what to do... but once it opens up for me it seems to be my cup of tea)

Awesome that you liked it though, I will consider buying DA3, but with the road they've chosen I do not think I will buy it, and they won't sell any dlc to me :)

On another note.. I hope it goes well for Bioware :) at least well enough to really push ME3 into epicness =)

I really like the system, actually. Am currently planning a campaign with my local PnP group. We've done a few test sessions and everyone enjoyed themselves - we've all played a lot of different systems, and sometimes it's nice to have something straightforward where we don't have spend half the game session looking up optional rules. (But then, I'm a fan of Big Eyes, Small Mouth for the same reason.)

Slightly more on topic: glad you enjoyed the game, OP. I've finished my third run, and I think I'll wait a while before I start my fourth. (I'm going to have to go play Warden's Keep and Awakening again to set some flags the way I want them.)

My name is Zeevico and this is my favourite thread on the bio-boards. There are some excellent features to this game and it is certainly enjoyable.

- Friendship/rivalry;
- Combat mechanics sped up;
- Companion interaction and storyline written well (only wish there was more of it).

That's plenty enough to enjoy this game.

Actually I loaded Jade Empire onto my wife's machine just yesterday since she finally decided to take me up on my reccomendation that she might really enjoy it.

Of course, to my wife, Jackie Chan movies count as 'Chick Flicks.' Image IPB

So I think it likely to be up her alley even if Action games generally are not. But I thought she'd be unable to play Mass Effect and was proven quite wrong. She loves the series.
