Wow... I'm shocked. I hadn't expected this level of uhm... debate.

I'm not going to reply anymore to those types of comment, though.

For what it's worth, I'm a 28 year-old male from Belgium.

Anyone who dares to like DA2 gets reemed like this. Sort of why I don't usually set foot out of the NPC discussion forum, really.

It's sad.

Sounds like Jabba here has "Kanyewest Disease". It afflicts tens of thousands of forums posters every year.

hee hee, love you, esbatty!

Reminds me of a recent Facebook status joke... seems appropriate here...

"Please make this your status if you know someone, or have been affected by someone who needs a punch in the damn face. People who need a punch in the damn face affect the lives of MILLIONS. There is still no known cure for people who need a punch in the damn face, except a punch in the damn face. 93% of people won't re-post this. Why? Because they probably need a punch in the damn face."

Its amazing how you sensitive people are so quick to insult and put down the ones you say are doing the very same thing. I'm way older than either of you. But perhaps I misunderstood the purpose of forums, I shall only post in the dislike threads, and you can enjoy your lovey love crazy people thread. And by the way, people who like the game DO have problems with those who don't. They are quite often accused of being pc elitist, trolls, and many other things.

If you are unable to disagree without personal insults, then perhaps these forums aren't for you at all (not to mention it being against the forum rules to insult others).
Oh and I've taken the liberty of reporting you for harassing forum members.

Actually I loaded Jade Empire onto my wife's machine just yesterday since she finally decided to take me up on my reccomendation that she might really enjoy it.

Of course, to my wife, Jackie Chan movies count as 'Chick Flicks.' Image IPB

So I think it likely to be up her alley even if Action games generally are not. But I thought she'd be unable to play Mass Effect and was proven quite wrong. She loves the series.

Your wife rocks. B)

But yeah, I too like some Action games just fine, and some Adventure games too. If someone would ask me to choose between the genres, I'd pick the RPG anytime, but I do like other genres.

I wonder how ME 3 will be. I'm reading a lot of good stuff. I've been sniffing around it, and I'll keep doing that. I love ME 1(not the Mako though. No, not that). I never could really warm up to ME 2, but I know I will eventually get it. It's a bit shooterish, and that's a genre I'm not very good at. I've been reading posts about it though, and it seems there's more to it than that.

By the way DA 2 is a real heap of $4!t, just my opinion, but it's just as valid as yours, look I'm glad that you enjoy a game that is subpar, I really am, I just have a hard time grasping how anyone could play origins, then prefer this garbage "Laidlow" dumped on us

I don't prefer it per se, but I do think that the series should keep a few things:

  • ...
  • voiced protagonist, but I think choice should be given as to what the voice is. Picking from a few voice sets and that's the voice you hear in conversations.
  • Keep giving companions a home base of sorts, but give more options to talk with them on your own terms

those are the ones that immediately spring to mind.

Sad thing is after DA][ I don't expect to get more of anything in the future.
More voices for the PC? -> No! VO is too expensive for that to ever happen.
More companion interaction? -> No! See point one.
More than one race to play the game with? -> No! See point one.

I enjoyed it too, although it was kind of bugging me that it was so not like origins.
All the over the top combat animations, the way too clean look for a gritty world and all the retcons.
But this only counts if we compare it to origins, itdoesn't say anything about the game itself.
Then there are technical/gameplay problems, such as the cannonfodder enemies and the recycled maps, not to mention the bugs.

But if anyone thinks that DA2 was the worst game he has ever played, i either envy or pity him, because he's either delusional, or he has never played an actually bad game.
There are problems, some are hard to ignore, but people who hate DA2 can't seem to focus on anything else, that way, every game could be called horrible.

And the trolls, or in worse cases, the actual idiots should really look up what opinions other than theirs mean, because even though i like it, and think that people who hate overreact, i still understand that different people react differently to the sam problem.

Yeah she does rock. Don't tell her I said that though. Will just go to her head.Image IPB

And ME2 (in my opinion) improves on ME1 in nearly every concievable way. There are so many good parts (especially if you're nostalgic on the first). Its not really any more shooterish than the first one. The aforementioned wife gets heavy vertigo playing some heavy 3D games (Bethseda games are near unplayable to her sadly) and had no problems with ME2. Also it has 100% less Mako in it. The replacement vehicle is a free DLC thing and not really part of the main game (Hence, skippable)

You are not?

Well, perhaps for the better.

I was more asking for serious confirmation if people who like DA2 are considered "idiots" for no reason, and people who dislike it are dismissed as "idiots" for no reason.

I'll stick with the middle ground for now.

Oh wait... Then I'll be flamed by both.

Grrrrreat. <_<

Yeah, Ali. No Mako sure makes it appealing all on its own.

Bummer about your wife's vertigo, I'm sorry to hear that, Cutlass. What about Morrowind? I think I'd cry real bitter tears if I couldn't play that game. It is kind of old, but the mods are fabulous. They can spiffy it up in many areas.

As for not telling on you, sorry. We sisters have to stick together. It's a law. The Order dictates, and the Qun demands it. My apologies.

Whacka, I don't hate the game either. It's simply average to me. There are some very good parts in it, and also some very bad ones. Sadly for me, the bad outweigh the good, but if it's the other way around for you, or you totally love the game that's your right. Your opinion is not less than mine.

True enough though, it can get plenty scary in here, can't it? ;)

Bolded part: This.

The Mako may be gone, but they STILL managed to make an annoying chore you have to go through. Planet scanning.

So there it is. I just wanted to post this because I have the impression I'm in a minority here but I think it's worth mentioning and I kind of hope that Bioware reads this as I'm a creative person myself and I know how important it is to know you've reached at least a portion of your audience.

Your reaction pretty much mirrors mine.

Nope no Morrowind, no Oblivion. Daggerfall she enjoyed, but couldn't make beyond that. She sadly had to give up on the Fallout series as well when it went to Bethseda. Too much free range of camera movement I guess. She does fine in Bioware games and MMORPGs in general. But an hour or so in a Bethseda game and she's running to the bathroom.

I feel bad for her. I know she'd love them, but can't play them. So I generally downplay enjoying them.

But for whatever reason she was fine with the Mako. I thought for sure she'd get sick playing Mass Effect. I think she enjoyed driving that thing horribly all over the landscape. But as long as she keeps the settings on casual for the ME games she's good.

To the OP.

I think its great you love this game; though your post makes me feel that either you have too low standards, or my standards are too high.

I dont hate or dislike DA2. I actually do like it.

I just think it has a number of fairly serious flaws that destroy replayability of the game; which for a BW RPG is a serious no no as far as I am concerned. BW RPGs HAVE to be replayable.
These flaws (like repetitive levels/areas/maps) and bugs (Isabela friendship bug) downgrade the game from something that could be awesome to something that is merely decent.

However, my biggest problem I think is that to me the game feels a little abrupt and short; and unfinished. The storyline diving off onto the Mages V Templars tangent in Act 3 that had very little foreshadowing; and its abrupt ending (I was convinced I had another few hours of gameplay left when I hit the ending). Combine this with the fact that the story feels like its driving Hawke and not Hawke driving the story; it results in something that feels half done.

Again downgrading the game from awesome to decent.

When I think about the things I hate about DA2 and start to feel the hatred sour my feelings for the game; I think about how much Oblivion annoyed me prior to Unofficial Patching and modding, and how bad Fallout 3 was for its storyline and bugs. It puts everything in perspective.
This game may be Bioware's worst game ever (The Sonic game is supposedly worse) - if you go by the overall ratings - it STILL outstrips Fallout 3 and Oblivion by quite some margin (even after patches that are supposed to "fix" the games by Bethesda) IMO.

The planet-scanning is actually one of the major turn-off points for me, but I guess I can live with it. *Sigh*, I'm going to Alpha-Tec (media outlest here) tomorrow anyway, I can just see myself walking out with a copy of ME 2.

I drive the Mako horribly too, I never manage to control that darn thing properly. I guess I'll take your wife's attitude and simply laugh about it. It might work who knows :D

AudioEpics now that would be beyond sad if a personal opinion ruined a friendship. Don't let anyone ruin the experience for you. There are actually a lot of people who don't like the game or think it's merely average that don't jump into your face because you think differently. Unfortunately, we tend to get lumped together now and then, and that works as well the other way around.

It's getting so bad that I actually try to avoid stating that I absolutely love....the...ah...other game, because it is highly possible that I'll get accused of putting it on a pedestal and praising it because it's my purpose in life to slam its sequel.

No. Don't look for logic. Logic? We dismissed that claim :D

She likes to hum the 'Dukes of Hazard' theme while she sends the Mako flipping all over the landscape (Which is a terrible US show from a few decades back)

Question though? You can't get the free digital copy of ME2 for having bought DA2? I like physical copies myself but 'free' seems a good option if you're on the fence or money is tight.

As I have said from day dot...

The sum is less than the parts. You break up the individual parts and there is certainly some amazing stuff gameplay wise going on. Add them together and they get drowned out in what their combined goal was.

I liked the mako, but I was good at driving it over almost anything.. Also why I liked planet exploring in ME1. I must say I avoided ME1 for a long time, finally bought the game new for €5 and enjoyed it. Did 2 play-throughs. By that time ME2 was under €10, so bought that as well. However. just cannot get into it... Still have not left the 1st building... Might give it another try later...
I still love Morrowind. I just did a new install with the great new graphics mods, shaders and environment mods for it. It is incredibly stunning now!

I liked driving the Mako. No really ! More fun than the paper-hulled Hammerhead too.

Nothing like launching yourself from a 2000 feet mountain...wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...
It was better than the planet scanning at least, you'll have to give me that :P
