Length is from collar to lower hem. Width is from armpit to armpit.
1 inch = 2.54cm

I forgot to mention to take a sweater that fits you well and lay it out flat then measure it and use those measurements to compare with the store. Just make sure the sweater is nice and flat so you get accurate measurements.
