I recently got disgusted at how easy it was to take down Kangaxx, even in Chap. 3, with Protect. from Magic scrolls, so I grabbed the loot and ran over to the Bridge district to attack the Twisted Rune HQ, figuring that the 2 scrolls would run out early in the battle, but what the heck. Instead I found that I was able to successfully complete the fight (for the first time ever in Chap. 3) with the protected bubble still in place. Has anyone else had a similar experience with using the PfM scrolls to do two difficult battles in quick succession? Admittedly 10 turns is 100 rounds and you can race around Athkatla pretty quick, but still it seemed as though cheese had been piled on top of cheese. ?? Has it happened to you? Image IPB

i never use scroll of magic protect or scroll of undead protection for this reason ; /

Though i know there is a mod that make those "cheese" item rarer and harder to find.

The first (and last) time I used the scroll of cheese, I cleared the path to the twisted rune lich, read the scroll, took out that lich, then the one in the gate district, then lich-kangaax, and it ran out in time for the change to demi-lich status, where I read the second scroll, finished him off, and for an encore took out the lich in the gate district too. After that I've always had Tactics andor SCS2 installed.

I do use those scrolls, but I compensate by eschewing the Shield of Balduran.

Though the biggest cheese of them all is Spike traps.

Try wishing for an army of bunnies, and then wishing to cast horrid wilting on everyone in the area...which will include the bunnies.

Doing 2-3,000 damage is not uncommon. Nothing can survive it.

As for protection scrolls, I never use them at all. Far too Easy Button for my tastes.

Spike traps are a balanced tool for thieves to compete in an game that has super arcane casters. They become cheese like when used with player knowledge i.e. see a boss and lay traps in his path is perfectly legit usage but lay your traps over by the window because you know a wizard will teleport into the room at that spot becomes cheese.

The bunnies don't actually amplify damage from the wish-> horrid wilting, as it's different to normal ADHW and doesn't overlap, just a plain 20d8 to everyone in the area.

The irony is that the people with the least need to use this scroll are the most likely to know what it does, and vice versa. I must've played bg2 through half a dozen times by now and I never used it once, because I just considered all 'Protection from Foo' scrolls kinda pointless. I don't get lightning-bolted, or acided, or whatever often enough to care about a minor damage reduction. (I also don't play no-reload games...)

I may try it out in the twisted rune this time around though, definitely curious...

I think its alot of fun to use protection from fire and lightning with a pure mage party because then whenever I'm in a small room with lots of enemies you can cast fireballs or lightning and instead of worrying about getting hit by friendly fire you can just sit back and watch 6 lightning bolts bounce around the room and kill everone :D
