My feeling was 3 years based on the game taking place over a 10 year span. But I don't think they said conclusively. It was at least long enough for Hawke's estate to be abandoned.
To be fair, wouldn't it be pretty much abandoned after Bodahn and Sandal head for Orlais and Hawke+his LI vanish into the hills?

Um, maybe I missed, but is it stated somewhere that his/her estate was abandoned?Cutlass Jack wrote...

Not explicitly but it's clear (if you look at the background) that Varric is being interrogated at Hawke's estate and Hawke is long gone (and that IS explicitly said no matter what ending). As for the rest, it's my understanding that Varric is interrogated 10 years after Hawke arrives which would put it three years after the events in Act III.

Where do you get that understanding that the interrogation occured 10 years after Hawke's arrival?
Note: If your argument is that the rise to power takes 10 years(according to the pre-release marketing) I can simply say that the remaining years will be covered by DLC (like Golems of Agmarrak and Witch Hunt for Origins).

As mentioned, Varric was being interrogated at the Hawke estate. You see that at the end when Cassandra leaves the building.

I like what they did to the place. Very atmospheric.

They finally closed the curtains. Unlike Hawke, Cassandra really didn't want to see the neighbors making up.
