So did you get the COD crowd or did you just alienate your old fans?

They certainly couldn't have done any worse than COD did attracting my business. And they didn't alienate this old fan.
Same here. I haven't played a shooter since my C64 days, but I liked DAII just fine.

Of the core audience a portion of people who bought the game are pi**ed off, others went "meh" and stuck DA2 on a shelf, whilst other's enjoyed it. And at leas some have held off on buying the game altogether.
So, no they didn't really get the CoD style exclusive crowd, were they ever going to? and managed to alienate or at least irritate a proportion of the existing fan base, but not everyone.

My guess is no, because no matter how you wrap up an RPG is will not appeal to that crowd.
Now, have they lost these fans forever? Depends. Have they lost a lot of people who will pre-order the next DA game, probably. Will some or most of these fans return if they make a great game next time, probably.

It serves nobody to have devs arguing with everybody who comes to this forum with a chip on their shoulder, this sort of thing is what benefits us. What it comes down to is they'll respond if you have a good, well phrased question and they have something to add, but if your question contains phrases like "the COD crowd" you're probably just raging, which will result in 'B' and probably 'A', too.Darkhour wrote...

Also, I like DA2. I liked Origins, and loved Baldur's Gate, but I've also been know to play Killzone, God of War and even Soldier of Fortune. You know what I consider myself? A gamer. Let's cool down on the generalisations.

Well I like both types of games, but I do want them separated. When I'm in the mod for a CoD game I'll play one. When I'm in the mood to immerse myself into a deep role playing experience, I want a game that does that. Mixing the two is absolutely the wrong thing to do in my opinion. So while I like both game types, and can't stand the DA2 hybrid they made.

As for CoD, I like the occasional match. It does rub on you after a while.

Sure, sure. If by "truth" you mean "total bullpucky".
Odd definition of "truth", but... well... that's our modern education system for ya. Dictionaries be damned!

Well by the look of things the percieved audience(I don't think it was aimed specifically at CoD fans)hasn't materialised in any great number. The FPS/TPS/Sport game etc. exclusive crowd won't touch it anyway, a proportion of others will be turned off by the graphics/art design etc. whilst other gamers simply don't like the whole concept of RPGs.
Of the core audience a portion of people who bought the game are pi**ed off, others went "meh" and stuck DA2 on a shelf, whilst other's enjoyed it. And at leas some have held off on buying the game altogether.

truth is FPS people pick up an rpg in the same frequency as RPG people pick up an fps
usually it's just due to popularity/word of mouth/a desire for something different, in which case it rarely matters what type of sub-genre your game is in - just that it's considered universally good and is somewhat accessible

You really think devs will admit their game was a fiasco? This doesn't have anything to do with "having balls". This has to do with saving the face of the company. They already know their console action-adventure game was a failure, but they'll never admit it.

I can assure you, mate, that lying never saves face. It makes you look untrustworthy and devalues anything you say. If 90% of people say DA2 suck (not saying that's necessarily an accurate number) and Bioware says it's great, it wasn't rushed, we thought reused area was a good idea, the waves were just fine, DX11 made any noticable difference, etc. then all they're saying is "we have no ****g clue how to make a good game and this is what you can expect from now on". That does not save face and is not good for business. No one is going to read that and say, "Oh, well I guess DA2 was excelent afterall. Consider your face saved. Crisis averted. Can I pre-order DA3 yet?" What they are going to say is, "You either have no clue as to what the F your doing or you're an untrstwoorthy pack a lying snakes who'll say anything to move product". No face saved. Your words become hollow. Your reputation is dragged through the mud.
You have to acknowledge your mistakes. Humility is not weakness. Otherwise people may expect you to keep repeating your mistakes. Which means people will pass on future products.

Stop trying to pick fights with us, stop goading us into giving you ammunition to shoot back at us, and maybe we'd be more interested in talking. Just saying.
