i thought when it happend, how interesting it would be if they brought that character back in ME3. Have them be indoctrinated and working for the reapers. saren could have totally snatched them before the explosion. they could have been on the collector ship that attacked you. the coolest aspect would be the rivalry, since most malesheps saved ashley and most femsheps saved Kaiden you'd be fighting/saving someone whos on your level. it might also be cool to maybe fight some crazy husk version of them. What do you guys think?
Does anyone else think maybe Kaiden/Ashley DIDN'T die on Virmire?

given the fact it showed them right next to the nuke, on the ground, injured, surrounded by geth, like 10 seconds before it went off.... makes me think they're pretty dead

Yeah...I'd say that's a pretty safe assumption.

That's another on the long list of plot twists that I hope never see the light of day.
In my case poor Lt Alenko was right next to the bomb, with no way to escape from the area or the radiation wave that would follow.
There's no way he survived that.
But still it was a great and noble thing he did and I honor him for it. I'd rather have his picture don the halls of the Citadel as a hero then fight some evil robo zombie Darth Vader version of him.

"Twists" like that (and i use the word twist in MASSIVE sarcasm quotes) are best saved for lame B class scifi films.

Nope. Did you see the size of the explosion on Virmire? For all intents and purposes Shep ruined the ecosystem of the planet. If the virmire survivor survived an explosion that visibly took maybe a quarter of the planet while being so close to the damn nuke....
Well you instantly just blew suspension of belief. Its not a good idea.

well Mass Effect is not exactly iconic sci fi anyway so it might as well be b class sci fi.

My son thinks we're going to rescue Ashley from Saren in ME3. He mentioned it when he saw the Game Informer article.
He also thinks that Rachel Dawes was whisked away by the Joker at the last minute in The Dark Knight. I don't have the heart to break it to him...

I hope not, I hated Ashley and I want her to stay dead.

Wow...I guess that I'm the only one who likes lame 80's B-movie sci-fi plot twists...at least in my video games. Oh well, its not like this is what I'm wanting to happen, its just a thought.

Considering what happened to Shep in ME2... I'd say they could do that. And I'm sure they could pull it off too.
But there is no reason to 'go there' really. And I don't think they would take such a cheap ploy.

Unless Kaidan is secretly Goku in disguise... I think he's pretty dead. If anything, I'd prefer a plot twist where it turns out the VS wasn't actually unfrozen on Horizon when the collector ship went off, but was actually indoctrinated or whatever to spy on the alliance and Shepard...
*Prepares flame shield against Kaidan/Ashley fans*
Shepard's body was pretty banged up from everything that happend to him/her between the normandy blowing up and him/her hitting the ground on *forgot planet name* but Kaidan/Ashley was completely blown away, there's nothing left to reconstruct. I don't see how you could pull off a lazarus project, short of looking for Ashley/Kaidan DNA on the original normandy (and I suppose they have blood samples of every alliance soldier somewhere) and clone him/her for ME3. But a reconstruction like Shepard... no way..

A couple years ago on the old forums the devs posted that whomever died on Virmire is in fact dead, and won't be returning.

Is it your guilt that compels you to think that a wounded soldier could limp away in 5 min. from the EPICENTER of a nuclear bomb?

And then we find out that Garrus and Harbinger were the same character all along, and completely controlled by TIM in an attempt to unify humanity under his command...
