I actually quite like Anders' DA2 character development, and believe it to be wonderfully interesting and intriguing. The presence of a Fade spirit within his body, warping his mind and psyche in the process, results in the development of an increasingly jaded, bitter and hateful Anders. The snarky, playful and flirtatious man that he was during the events of Awakening have long since departed.

Oh, and Anders' bisexuality is the best thing evar. :D

Finally someone who isn't whining as much as Fenris on this thread.  Anders character development is excellent.  Considering he is an abomination, I doubt he'd remain the same.  I applaud the writers for making Anders a much more complex character than he had been orginally.  KUDOS Bioware!

Not in Awakening. He was straight and they changed him. You could see by his dialogue that he was straight.

Because he didn't jump into bed with the warden during the months/weeks Awakening takes place? That would be like Duncan talking the player into bed at Ostagar. Because he didn't say anything about it? If you turned up for a new job would you go straight to your boss and say "I'm bi, by the way. Just for reference."?

Or maybe he did change after Awakening, I don't know the whole story with Karl but maybe he thought he was straight until then? That wouldn't really be such a crime, would it? We really don't know one way or the other so it's not worth getting worked up about anyway.

Stop pretending. You know the truth, but act as if it didn't exist. Anders was written as heterosexual. It is also evident in the game

But it was necessary that everyone is " bi in DA2", so for a resolution out of the game, out of story, out of character, it was decided to change it, that's all. No more, no less.

Nobody was written into a sexuality in Awakening because there weren't romances, if you want to be like that. Except maybe Oghren who's married and has a kid.

He's never been gay or striaght. He's bi sexual.

Subjective sexuality doesn't make him bisexual.

Justice happened to Anders, sad thing too because I loved him in Awakening. Not that he wasn't a well written character in the second installment, but I did not like him as a character in the second. Even before the end.

The proof for me is that the dev have decided to add a gay romance earlier for Anders in DA2, to counteract the well-established idea ( but true ) that Anders was heterosexual in light of what he said, what he was.

That was well played, as Mr. Gaider, Kwown exactly what he had written and how he thought his character at first. :)

His not telling you about Karl if you play a woman doen't mean it didn't happen if you play a woman, you can consider him and Karl being together as canon. You can't dispute it as a retcon since there's nothing but your subjective guesswork to oppose it. There are other examples of events you only hear about by happening on a certain path (Architect's revelation with the Mother, for example), it's still true regardless of if you hear it.

I actually like the DA2 Anders, and I was very fond of him in Awakening. The thing is, DA2 Anders isn't really the same person - he's a merger of Anders and Justice so although little flashes of the old Anders is apparent in the odd banter, he's a much darker person now. Bear in mind that he's also living with the taint and darkspawn-induced nightmares, and running himself ragged healing people in the grimmest part of town and he hasn't really got much to laugh about.

I get how the oppression of mages in Kirkwall and the merging with Justice (who becomes Vengeance) would make him more bitter and revolutionary, but I don't get why the writers made Anders a terrorist (and one who did not think about the consequences of his actions). Anders, like so many other insane and/or blood mages in DA2, made me pro-templar compared to DA:O where I was pro mage. Now that is saying something.

I would have preferred if Anders in year one was a little more like Anders, Ser Pounce-a-lot reference aside. I really don't see any reason to make him Anders if he had to have that type of mentality. Make it Mage X, though it might not have the emotional impact. Oh well.

I have to agree that Anders seems a like a completely different person to me in DAII. I'm not saying I don't like him as he is now, but I don't see the reason to alter his behaviour so much. He's certainly a lot more serious and lot less sarcastic now, which is a shame. Perhaps BioWare felt he was too similar to Alistair in Awakenings, and so tried to make him more unique.

I would have had more emotional ties if they had made it mage X grown up in the Kirkwall Circle under Meredith's thumb, personally. Because instead of getting emotionally involved, I just get pissed that the Anders I fell in love with got a Justice lobotomy and a voice change. It is immersion breaking for me every talk to the guy. Which is why he stays in his clinic until his quests.

They mad ehim better. Anders in DA2 is more real. Anders in DA2 shows actual character growth. He's more interesting. He's better written. He's not as juvenile and made for adults not little kiddies. The fact that Anders is no longer 'likeable' is a good thing.

0/10, would not be trolled again.

Also, it takes a special kind of awful writing to assassinate two characters at once...

They turned a likeable character into a moderately retarded terrorist.

At least you get a chance to put him down as hard as Osama.

I continued my Awakening playthrough yesterday and to all who say that there is no proof of Anders's heterosexuality in the game, just play again.

He makes a 4 or 5 remarks/lines in party banter that clearly says he is heterosexual, also he's hitting on Velanna couple of times.

"All I want is a PRETTY GIRL, a decent meal, and the right to shoot lightning at fools."

Also his story about the woman-templar that chased him everytime he escaped the tower. He says didn't like to get caught but she made the experience enjoyable.

I have not anything against gay people but don't make everybody bisexual just for the sake of all possible romance options. Just think how lame would be if Morrigan and Alistair were also bisexuals in DA:O.
