Dude. Don't be raggin on Alistair. He's mah brosef. Think about it - he's the first "Carth" character in Bioware games who is not an annoying, depressed, clingy douche.

Yes, he's a thirty-year-old virgin. So what. The guy has been locked up in a monastery for most of his life, got "rescued" by the only father figure he's ever had and then lost the said father figure and a whole bunch of friends in short order. Of course he's a little... out of his comfort zone.

I see him as my main's adopted awkward little brother who uses lame jokes to keep up a brave front. At least he doesn't mope about it - for the most part he's quite cheerful. And at the same time he's not afraid to stand up to me when I choose "somewhat less amicable" solutions to problems.

So yeah. Don't be hatin'.

turn off tactics and any character is as good as you, because your controlling them

I agree with this in theory but I’ve controlled Alistair direct, who needed to get through many healing potions & still die – numerous times.
replaced his sorry arse with shale, controlling him direct & it’s job done 1st time. No idea why it doesn’t really work with Alistair. He’s got pretty decent armour, not bad enchanted sword, elite redcliff shield & he’s just crap.

I’d be impressed if alistair could wipe his arse without cocking it up & dying.

Shale requires alot of micro to be useful, if you have alot of mages or a rogue, that takes away most of your time.

Like any character, Alistair is only as good as you play/level him. Make better choices.

Might I suggest tactics like "Enemy - Attacking Morrigan - Taunt." Basic tanking stuff.

Alister can be meh if you dont play him right, he died on me a bit in the begining. Give him enough Str to wear good gear. Give him a good one handed weapon and shield. Pump him up with Con (He's your Tank not your DD, he's not there for dps he's a meatshield) Specialize as a Reaver. <-- I found that very good for him. Take the obvious tanking skills, and he becomes a hero instead of a zero. And dont forget he's not just your tank, he's a templar, anti-mage, make use of his dispells.

My only beef with Alister is that he's secretly a racist! But my elf got her revenge. >:D

I tried Allister a few times, even at level 17, with both Templer and Beserker skills, max armor and weapons, he's just not that good, I hate having to micro manage a tank. I parked him, use either Dog or Shale as tank, I guess its all a matter of subjective preference. For me Morrigan is my fav char because of her AoE ....anddddd... my char gets to sleep with her, I mean ... come...on!
====================================================================================

On a seperate note, that Paragon quest was so far the hardest of the five. Hey Bioware, tyvm for a great game. Can we get better drops? cheapskates.Posted Image

Also, you are strangely mean to Morrigan long before she's said anything to warrent it. This is your second conversation with her and you told her you'd like her to crawl under a bush and die. What?

Morrigan must have been more reticent in your game than mine.

I bought both the PC and 360XB versions and prefer the PC due to ease of use in menu(s) and team management, in addition, its easier to I.D. stuff on PC. In defense of the 360 platform, its faster gameplay and almost instant loads.

Morrigan has told me several times "I like you." Wynne's like meter is at 3/4's full so she's fine. The dwarf and he crack me up, he mentioned "licking" her and she snapped at him, made me stop playing and laughed. Not sure why Sten likes my char's they never use him. I enjoy doing a pre-save then going off on all of them to see what happens, try it, its fun. Then load your initial and move on.

The problem I have with Alistair, is that deep down he actually is the USUAL trademark "Bioware romance for girls". It's like they make them with a printer or something. He's a goody-goody; he's a virgin; he's clumsy; he had a past that is sad enough to make him whiny but definitely not enough to make him interesting; he's a follower type of person with no leader qualities.

I guess if the fangirls weren't happy with that, maybe the Bioware staff would finally understand that their stereotype of romance for girls isn't exactly what all girls want. I want a character who is the one who makes the first move on my heroine; I want a character who doesn't have a boring "dimly sad and depressing" past but something more epic or darker; I want a character who is manly enough to not be the clumsy follower type; and above all, I want a character who is not a boring goody-goody paladin archetype. Basically....... I want Bishop from Neverwinter Nights 2. He was -wonderful-, and I loved the romance with him very much.

I bet Mass Effect 2 will have a romanceable guy who is a virgin, a goody-goody, a follower type, etc. etc. Again.

All this being said, I still like Alistair a lot more than the previous Bioware romances; so I see that at last they're definitely getting a little closer to my personal tastes.

I still really wish Sten would've been romanceable, though. :P I'd have chosen him without hesitation.

.....Wow, this was unexpected for me, Alistair has been totally different. Once I got him into "Massive" armor and an amazing shield he was like a mountain. I barely had to heal him during the very last boss (scared of posting any spoilers lol) it was Zev that kept dying. Plus I was an elf mage and never took him anywhere and somehow the poor fool still fell in love with my character, had to break his heart and everything.Posted Image

Meteorite? And others... had to use swords from middle game on, since all other one handers sucked hard in comparison.

As for Alistair or "Bone Boy", like my dwarf calls him.. he´s really the most whiny and annoying person of the whole team. And what´s even more annoying, i can tell everyone to hit the road, only good ole Ali sits around in camp.. waiting.. and ****ing... like an old wife, cause of which you don´t want to go home.

At least he still has a personality, even an annoying one, unlike Oghren, who is nothing but a drunk.

It is totally up to personal taste, if one likes Allistair or not. Go take Shale if you don´t like him tanking for you or even stick around.

But to claim he is a bad tank, is just not true. He is a rock. Just get him in heavy armor (Blood Dragon armor, or Armor of Wardens Keep) These come wit a lot of extra health and stats.

The most important Tanking skill is:

Taunt

Get it. Use it. Enemies that are effected by your taunt will not attack anything else for the remainder of the battle. It is best to use taunt manually to get as many enemies affected by it.

Your second best ability is "shieldwall" always have it activated and max that tree out first. Makes you immune to knockovers and pushbacks.

There you go.

Shale is better in the beginning. But he never can compete against a good equipped and skilled Allistair.

Am I the only one who spots the joke?

I kind of like Alistair, though. Morrigan is the bitter wench who should have written me directions out of the Wilds. Should have choked on that stew she was brewing.

Deekin is really really annoying... :)

Alistair on the other hadn is fun, shy and easy-going. I quite like him (and he seems to like my elf as well...) and wouldn't mind spending time playing board games or something with him IRL as well.. :)

Also: He's only died a single time for me and that was due to me being too slow with healing and not having set up the tactics good enough (i.e. no "if
