DING DING DING! WE HAVE A WINNNAHHHH! Dragon Age: Origins was no more a 1st person Roleplaying game by design than Dragon Age II or Mass Effect or the Witcher was. Ny-uh.

I mean, if one chooses to play them as 1st person games, have at it hoss! Bust the nut of fun! Dance the dance of life! :wizard:

But those that chose to play them in the 3rd person were not doin' it rong

Now we just have to wait until Hermione Gra- I mean, Dragoon comes back and tells us all that we're simply plebeians who don't understand the true intent of these games because of our limited imaginations, brain size, and possible the size of our johnsons. Those of us who have johnsons.

Go back to the start (read it again, the thread and my posts) and do not collect $200.

The majority of people have actually agreed with me both in this forum threads and in private messaging.

P.s. Honestly I have to ask just how old are you? Because your passive aggressive attack on my character and personality gives me enough reason to doubt you are a mature adult.

Dude, you are pretty relentlessly condescending in your posts and when somone calls you on it you play the victim?  Do you really want to be accusing someone ELSE of passive-aggression?  How about you stop pretending you have the truth and everyone who disagrees with you fails to understand or comprehend your great wisdom?

And while you're at it please stop waving around the .sig quote like it means anything at all.  I find it absolutely hilarious when people appeal to the authority of the devs when they happen to agree with their viewpoints and then turn around and demonize them when they don't.  DAO is not a first-person roleplaying game because PHDs at Bioware said so any more than the DA2 button is "awesome" because Laidlaw said so.

It's a difference of opinion.  A lack of agreement.... not a lack of comprehension, however much it might pad your ego to believe that is the case.

Dialog wheel is fine, I would say just remove the icons and use the Mass Effect wheel rubric. The icons were an okay idea with okay implementation, but it is more clunky and no more efficient than ME's rubric.

*Yawn* Still trying to have a jab at me I see... Sorry but you neither have the right or authority to tell me what I can or cannot quote from the developers. I explained it to you, I explained the use of actual gameplay mechanics of which enforces one style of play more than the other and was done by purpose by the developers promoting one form of narrative (method of telling a story) over another between first and third. Your not understanding that perception is forged through design choices and gameplay mechanics is not my problem. Want to keep having a dig at me? Good for you but it's getting rather tiresome now.

I prefer the dialog wheel. It always bothered me that the warden was mute. I think that there were 2 times playing the game where my misinterpretation of the response on the wheel caused a response I didn't intend. I'll take this inconvenience over a mute character any day.

There is one minor inconvenience, though. Voice acting causes the game to be 50% shorter - as confirmed by one of the devs in the link. ;)

50%... Wow.. i am gobsmacked. Literally. So i would have a game twice as long.

No, Origins would be 50% shorter with voiced PC.  I really doubt DA2 would have been twice as long without a voiced Hawke.   I'd guess Georg's comment about Origins was assuming more than just one male and one female voice considering there's a greater variety of Wardens than there are Hawke's. :)  Hawke's voice acting in DA2 simply cannot possibly be half the game's entire budget.

Unless the problem is disc space on the XBox version... damn them.

Heh, agree that VO makes a game shorter, and on another note. I miss those old bioware forums. They look 10x better than these ones.

1st play through of DAO took me about 80 hours inc Wardens Keep and Shale, 1st play through of DA2 took me 61 hours inc Sebastian. So while the devs may have said that its certainly not true in the case of DA2.

I agree with you on that plus the functionality on these forums is the worst of any web forum I'm on.

I believe that particular dev was referring to the cost of having multiple PC voice actors. Not just male and female, but human, dwarf and elf as well.

And I'm okay with that.  My preferred length for a game is 30-50 hours.  I get more replay value out of a 40-hour game than an 80-hour game.

I really wish BioWare would do a customer survey and show the results. I am so glad for people who like short games and find the mute Warden to be a burden. I am the opposite

I personally, prefer more content and polish than some crap coming out of BioWare's paper dolly that I get to play dress up with, that I didn't expect. I am really coming to hate the voiced PC with a passion. It is so much of an immersion killer for me, and I am getting less interaction with the world. Instead I get a cute little movie with commercials where I do fetch quests before the next cinematic piece gets shown to me.

But what really gets my goat I suppose is the assumption that the voiced PC as an clicky interactive movie is somehow soooooo innovative and new and a step forwards. That's what gets me pissed off. Because it isn't innovative, new, or even a step forward it is just a step to the side. A personal preference, and one I am coming to hate more and more as time goes on.

And you are pretty condescending yourself on every post of yours I have had the displeasure to come across. You remind me of Volourn. Seems the pot calls the kettle black or some such. And I have yet to see DragoonLordz rake a deve over the coals. Why not present your own evidence to support that the dialogue wheel is now such a great thing for a game like DA. I would be willing to listen to what you have to say then.

I try really hard not to be condescending or belittling of other's thoughts, I just won't engage them anymore once that line is crossed with me, or I read their posts and just simply don't bother, I have better things to do like have real discussions when I come ehre. But, at the risk of contradicting my stance, I just don't ever feel like replying to Zem_ anymore, especially when reading his replies/posts, then looking at his avatar, I get the distinct feeling that I would be nothing more than engaging in a "flame war".

I wasn't talking you down actually, I actually am to the point where with certain people, it is fine. Me not doing it is one thing, it doesn't bother me that anyone else does it, when their points are more than valid. But, people like Zem and Volourn are really about baiting and flaming, rather than real discussions. I apologize if I got you to feel that way, truly, that wasn't my objective. I actually support your words in this and I never think any the less of you otherwise.
And  {}s back at you.

If i've said anything not quite right, apologies, and I approve of what you said.

+10 approval. (refuses to use the DA2 system)
