I know this has been answered before but I couldn't find it in the search. What Runes are suitable for use in the offhand weapon?
Thanks.

The same as the main hand. It makes no difference which runes you have in which weapon. If I really like a rune, I get multiple copies and put them in both weapons.

I was under the impression that damage runes such as fire didn't work in offhand weapons.
Thanks for your quick reply.

They definitely don't when you are backstabbing as a rogue, im not sure if they don't trigger at all though. I just use +spell resist in my offhand, leave the triggering runes for the main. It wouldnt be hard to test, just equip damage runes in your offhand and see if the number's come up. If not its more than likely they aren't triggering.

TheBigMatt90 is saying what I thought. If that is correct, what specific Runes would be good for the offhand? I'm leaning toward passive style Runes such as Hale and Dweomer. I'm not sure about Cold Iron and Silverite.
Thanks for any info.

OK, just to be clear, as a rogue, I shouldn't put damage or Paralyze runes in my off-hand weapon? I'm playing the Ultimate Edition on the PC (1.04 version) if that matters.

Well, one could experiment and see what works. Save at camp after visiting Sandal, and then go trigger a map encounter and see if your runes are working in the off hand weapon. It might be easier to test cold iron/silverite runes rather than paralyze.
With a previous dual wield rogue, he did have paralyze runes in both daggers and paralyzed his enemies somewhat frequently (not counting dirty fighting usage), and I'm sure that wasn't just from the main hand weapon. Though he did have momentum on and 2x paragon paralyze runes-one on each dagger.

I hope your comment wasn't meant to be snarky. Given that there's no such thing as a combat log and never will be, we're reduced to watching the screen maniacally during combat and trying not to blink and read the colored numbers fast enough. Not what I'd call a reliable or easy method.
Edit: I went home at lunch today and played briefly. I equipped my dagger with two Grandmaster Lightning Runes in my off-hand. The fights I did against the bandits in Lothering went by too quickly for me to get in many backstab attempts I may have seen the two yellow +5's appear, but I'm not sure if I was really doing a backstab. So again, "just try it" isn't the most helpful advice in the absence of any record of combat data.
I actually started at page one of this forum and saw this info in a very early post, and really just wanted to know if the subject's question was still in effect at patch level 1.04. And also, if so, if anyone knows of a mod for the PC that fixes the problem.

Whats with the attitude? He was suggesting how you could test it yourself, not for you to **** that the fights went too quick. So again "just try it" can be used if you actually go somewhere that you can backstab things, its not that hard to equip 2 mauls, offhand with significantly lesser damage, put damage runes in the offhand, watch the screen for the lower damage one and see if there is anything extra. Also, its not that hard to put everyone on passive, use taunt with your tank, and go backstab even the bandits in lothering with everyone else standing around is it? How do you think other people have come to the conclusion? As you have so often pointed out, there is no combat data (Which Arthur never even mentioned, so what your first and second sentences are all about i have no idea) so evidently they have "just tryed it" and reported back their findings. So how about you "just try it" without trying to be smart and report back what you find?

As I've continued through the past posts on this forum, I see that Arthur Cousland has contributed a great deal of useful content and knowledge, so I apologize for insinuating that he was being a jerk to me.
As to the issue of runes in offhand weapons, yesterday I read the readme document for the Combat Tweaks v3.23 mod produced by Dennis Lee. One of the fixes in that mod is described as:
+ Fixed vanilla bug that caused any off-hand enchant to not proc at all while backstabbing.
This answers both of my questions, and even adds info that weapon enchants like poisons, coatings, and spells like Flaming Weapons don't work in this scenario. I'm still studying the mod's source to discover the exact script/data fix that Dennis made.
