I like Merrill, and believe that she's a wonderfully endearing character.

You must be one of those people who believes Ashley and Thane will be back in ME3?
Oh, wait...

You need My Little Abacus. It goes from 0 to pony.pony with no trouble.

Too much pride.
Merrill wants to help her people, and is willing to give her life to make it happen. I don't see why you think that means she has too much pride. Merrill leaves her clan to reconstruct something that she believes can provide unexpected and transcendent change for her people. You may disagree with her goals, but Merrill is trying to give them back a part of their heritage - something from the long, lost culture of Arlathan.
Also, I thought she demonstrated care when she warns Hawke to be careful when dealing with spirits and took Hawke along because she would rather be killed if she lost to Audacity than harm others. The only price Merrill is willing to pay for her quest is her life, and hers alone.

I agree with what you say. Merill cares about her people and her goal is laudable. But as I said, her behavior is very immature, she is stubborn.
When I say she has too much pride, it' s because it believes to be right alone against everyone and not listen to anyone, not even her friend Hawke. She is so desperate, she needs to prove she's right in all his years.
I love voluntarism, but clearly there is something wrong in the behavior of Merrill. She listen nobody. When the archivist is trying to talk to her, she almost immediately dismissed her warnings as if they were chimeras.
The Archivist is perhaps the wisest, the most powerful of all, me personally, I will take into consideration what she said.

I didn't get that vibe from her. I'm not sure why you did...do you see her going back to Marethari and going "I told you so, neener neener neener!!!" if she got the eluvian working? I don't. I doubt she'd rub it in a doubting Hawke's face either.

She just didn't listen to those that doubted her or disagreed...which is common. Besides, she listened to Marethari, she just didn't agree with her on a fundamental level so of course she wasn't going to take her advice
Anyway, gigglesquee.

She's plenty ignorant of the potential danger if she thinks her own life is the only one in jeopardy by fixing it. It's less than subtly hinted in the Dalish origin that the thing leads somewhere very bad. And Merrill knows that since she was part of the Dalish origin.

The Dalish Origin Eluvian was tainted by the Darkspawn so that shouldn't be the example for a normal Eluvian. The Witch Hunt Eluvian had Morrigan on it for who knows how long and she wasn't tainted so a normal Eluvian could lead to a new dimension and not taintland.

Anyway I do not like blood magic, I was glad to have destroyed the mirror when I learned that if we supported Merril, her clan turned against us and that we should kill them or take responsibility of archivist's death.
My instinct had not deceived me.

It's possible that magic could be used to select or change the mirror's destination...who knows.

Do not listen to those who do not agree with me, I personally do not like it, especially if they are my friends. Merril don't listen to Hawk. She is irrational with her research. Hawke must follow or save her against her will. That's all.

Doesn't Sten doubt The Warden during the journey to the Urn of Sacred Ashes? Doesn't The Warden continue onward, in spite of Sten's disagreement over this course of action?
The clan will try to kill Merrill in cold blood whether Hawke is in friendship or rivalry with her, if they are told the truth about what happened to Keeper Marethari.
