I know a lot of people are having this problem, and quite a few people have proposed solutions. Unfortunately, for me, none of those solutions actually fixed the problem for me, just increased the time between crashes. However, I've found that combining the following solutions together eliminate crashes altogether:
1. Check disable multi-render target in video options
2. launch windows task manager and set daorigins to only use 2 processors (right-click, select affinity)

The last two steps involve using a program called cff explorer to change some settings stored within daorigins.exe. So I'll walk you through how to find the settings.
Download and install CFFexplorer, and use it to open daorigins.exe.
In the left-hand pane click on the + next to NT headers and then click on File Header.
Now, in the right pane click on the 'click here' link next to the characteristics box.
The 2 settings you want to change are:
"App can handle >2gb address space"
and
"Aggressively trim working set"
Click ok, then save and enjoy crash free gaming.
