I'm done with Dragon Age now. The IP is dead to me.

It is one thing for a client to withold business from a company due to some perceived sleight, and quite another to go stomping into the store demanding for someone to be fired. I see such entitled snobbery in my own line of work occasionally, and have made up my own retort:

Wow, these forums are even worse than DA2. What's wrong with you all?!
It's just fighting and insulting each other, being at each others throats about who's right, whose opinion is superiour. Yuck.

I begin to understand why so many people think of gamers as socially challenged nerds.

Yet another pseudo-intellectual pretentious little ******. Who the hell do you think you are? Dumbing everything down for the masses? As opposed to the intellectual elite you represent, I assume. The elite wholeheartedly embracing a generic high fantasy plot and buggiest mechanics ever, correct? Well, if those, plus being a condescending moron with an inflated sense of self-importance bordering on megalomania (PM me in a few years [...] if you want me back? really...), are the criteria, count me out, pretty please.

Bottom line: good riddance, and do me a favor -- don't come back.

Broken Base

"A Broken Base is a civil war among fans of a particular series. It involves infighting over whether or not the series is still good after a certain change. The loyalists believe it's as good as ever - maybe even better - and constantly hold up its merits. The dissenters feel betrayed by declining quality, and attack the series at every opportunity. They'll also be annoyed by the other fans' loyalty, and will call them blind fanboys / fangirls. However, despite not liking the show anymore, the dissenters will linger around fan forums solely to criticize the show and the loyalists. The loyalists will reply by calling the dissenters a bunch of fuddy-duddies who go all Chicken Little at the slightest change to the status quo."

*passes Oban a cookie* I don't really appreciate all this pointless barking either. Can't we just chill and make sardonic quips and jokes? I like jokes :D

Well I was finally able to get into DA2 last night. After chugging along in the first act for several play attempts and coming away somewhat bored and generally unimpressed, I got to some of the more fun character interaction and character quests. DA2 has finally grabbed my interest. It may have its faults but this is one feature of the game I'm really enjoying.

As for those who haven't enjoyed it. It's been voiced over and over again, and frankly it's getting old now. I don't mind constructive criticism, that I can understand, but this forum seems so full of unreasonable hatred. It's just a game. If you don't like it, move onto the next one. There are plenty out there.

Just saying. ;)

As a console player I feel that DAII was dumbed downed as well.

"GI: What would you say to a PC gamer who feel Dragon Age 2 was dumbed down compared to Origins?"

As a PS3 player, if I play an action combat game, I'm use to God of War or Assassin's Creed type combat. I certainly don't enjoy pushing one button for combat like it was the Nintendo NES days. Nor should I get excited over watching silly combat animations that I have no control over. The combat action is way below exceptable for a console owner. Maybe a PC owner gets excited over that sort of thing, but I find it weak.

I'm a PC owner and a console owner. And I recognise the fact that Dragon Age is a different genre to action games such as Assassin's Creed and God of War. If you want a button-bashing party, don't buy an RPG. <_<

Dragon Age: Origins had the single-click combat system. Not that much changed really. Yet that was hailed as a great game, both on the PC and consoles. So I don't think your complaint is where DA2 fell down.

(my opinion/experience)

I hated DA:2 it took a lot just to finish it. I was so upset with it from the news in July 2010 to the day I beat it; I haven't played any of my BioWare games since then. Although I might fire up ME1&2 because I've been on a Sci-Fi binge lately. I've pre ordered a lot of bad games (Aion comes to mind), but this was like my "go-to" company for games. BioWare has never let me down, so this one hurt a lot, and it makes me worried for future games from BioWare.

I'm not saying Origins was a perfect game, but it had a lot less wrong with it than DA:2 which seemed like "quick buck" for EA/BioWare to sell a poor/rushed game via it's name and association with a great game.

you sir, are comedy gold.
calling others a ****** and accusing them of being elitists? priceless.

and what about what he told was wrong? if you want to make a game for the masses then you have to take things out which made that product unique for its niche. if you want to make, say D&D playworthy for the masses then guess what, you have to make the work for them.
and that the poster told he wants to be called back when they start makeing a product with uniqueness again, then i am 99.9% sure that he dosn't really expect an email from them. if you think about it for a minute i think you will realize that too. he just states his opinion in that manner.
but yes, we can also just think that it is a person with an inflated sense of self-importance, because it is easier to think that everyone who is not of my opinion is a moron.

Bottom line: do me a favor, before you post something, think a minute about it. or follow the advice you gave the initial poster.

Nopho, sometimes there's "truth in television" to just how big someone's ego can be.

And there's been quite a number of people who seem to think Bioware personally, specifically went out to screw them in the ass with DA2.

Are you going to say all of them weren't being dead serious? Humans aren't that perfect.

See exibits A and B.

I totally disrespect this laidlaw guy by now, but I'm mostly angry about myself when I expected a game with only one year development and such "awesome" marketing to be more than a total failure for me just because its from Bioware...
But lets face it, all you can do is not to buy games that look like crap and hope enough people do the same thing next time because I guess DA2 can be considered a financial success if you take into account that they put at most half the "normal" effort (money) into it.

oh lord no,
i bet and (as far as for a normal person possible) know that some of the DA2 haters/dislikers are morons. but answering to someone who has a dislike for a game while calling said person:

a ******
elitist
" moron with an inflated sense of self-importance bordering on megalomania"

just strikes me as not being a very good way to state your opinion. and the pure fact that he calls someone a moron while at the same time assumeing that the person he quotes really expects bioware to write him personally....you know? :innocent:

p.s. considering the first picture, guess how my 4year old self learned never to touch the hotplate

Really? So you're telling me its impossible to be loyal at point A, but due to circumstances not be loyal by point B? Its totally binary?

"I bought a dozen games from you that I loved, but I don't like this one, so I'm finished with the IP," isn't loyalty. That's like saying you're loyal to your friends but only when they're fun to be around.

No, it's like saying you're no longer loyal to your friend because they kicked you in the crothch and stoled $60 out of your wallet.  Your shocked that your friend would do this to you, and your friend feels that they have done no wrong and it's your fault for feeling that way.

Isn't that what I just said?  DAII is a button-bashing party in case you haven't played it on the console.  If you own it on the PC you're lucky because you can use auto-attack.

Or a comparison could be drawn with one of your friends making a mistake and you ditching them even though they've consistently been a good friend over the years.

Except... BioWare aren't your friend. They make games. They're attempting to be a profitable business. Yes, they failed in this one game but it's one mistake. Some people are willing to wait and see if they attempt to learn from it whilst others are damning them for it. I don't see the point in wasting my energy doing the latter so I'll just play the waiting game. There are plenty of other games to occupy me in the meantime. My gaming life does not hinge on BioWare. >.>

It's hardly button bashing when playing it on the console though. I never felt like that when I played it.

That tends to be my view. However there are a lot of games around now competing for peoples spare change. Once you leave the relative safety of the RPG niche it's open season when it comes to competition.

I have to hit "x" "x" "x" "x" "x" "x" "x" "x" "x" "x" "x" "x" "x"  then use one of my abilities, then hit "x" "x" "x" "x" "x" "x" "x" "x" "x" "x" then use another one of my abilities.....that's button mashing and it's maddening.  I prefer the auto attack if your combat is based on cooldowns

At least in AC you have different buttons to use and by using different combinations you can unleash other abilities without waiting for a cooldown. Your not hitting the same button over and over again.

Curious question for other people, how many of you are writers? Specifically of things that are of notable length and take a while to develope and get right. I'm not making an accusation, just pointing something out...

It took just over five years for me to be happy with the state of my book. This includes writing over top of my old writing, and re-writing the entire thing about four times plus one for writing over top the old. Some things have been accidentally left in because I didn't notice until it was too late.

Doing the second one, if I add in having the number of followers/fans or whatever that Bioware has, how many opinions those fans have and their expectations...

I really don't grudge them if they slip up. That's a lot of pressure to please people in such a short time.

And then they see the 100th thread like this and end up going, "oh f*ck it! This was pointless."

But I could be totally wrong. :?
